Crosby had a one game meltdown a few years back. But besides that, a 35 yard kick has been automatic for him since he was at Colorado
ETA: I'm not some old school guy who says kick when you can kick. I was pissed when Georgia kicked the FG with 8 min left against ND last weekend. I like aggressive playcalling. I just don't think that was the right time for it, but I guess that's why I don't get millions of dollars a year to make those decisions.

He perfect on 3rd downs and almost all of those incompletions you mention came on the first two drives.

kicking the PAT is successful 90%+ of the time... even since the line got moved back several seasons ago
2PC is successful ~60% of the time
