NHL playoffs take just as long as NBA since they don’t play consecutive nights. I suppose they could but quality would go down. You are complaining about the very thing that makes the NBA playoffs compelling…maximum effort which is what this thread is about

I wouldn't call what they give "maximum effort", and this thread is regarding a statement by Legler saying that players are not giving that "maximum effort" so it's the complete opposite.

NBA players making upwards of 50-60 million a year just can't muster the energy to care about playing/winning.

Good luck trying to force or teach that from the entitled players.

The only way to fix it is to fold the league. Current leadership in all positions is not capable to bring this thing back to real prominence.

The NBA is dying.

but the teams would have to vote and approve those things. Adam Silver would only be able to lead and suggest

Yes, but that’s what Silver has not done. Instead, he’s doubled down and emphasized the product for the ADD generation that can’t go 10 seconds without a made bucket.

Even that idiot Rob Manfred has managed to get some changes in his game to stem the influence of analytics.

Flopping, load management, star treatment (selective rule enforcement) and wokeness killed the NBA

Just remember. Adam Silver does not care about the white, middle age demographic. It’s whatever, but I never got that vibe from Stern. I think it’s possible to embrace the hip hop element, street element, Euro culture, all at the same time. Making adjustments to help stem the 3-point overkill and assisting the defense isn’t going to massively deplete the fanbase. As long as basketball is the easiest and cheapest sport to play as a kid, it will be wildly popular.

For any kind of job, as long as you're putting up the numbers, how can you qualify whether one cares or not? how do you know?

If you say, I know it when I see it, then what about Jokic?

Jokic has been the king of not caring yet puts up insane numbers and makes unreal passes and on court decisions.

You could also see this sort of thing in MLB and NFL if you looked hard enough.

It's a non-problem really.

NBA started clamping down on fake injuries. So now some players half arse it to basically rest in the game to avoid scrutiny. And team docs are creative in injury reports.

I have enjoyed betting player props for a while now, but it is almost impossible to do because the "injury" report every day is a mile long and the teams that are obviously tanking sometimes just sit players for no reason (Utah, I am looking at YOU)

I know you don't possibly believe this. College basketball is a better professional game right now.

The product on the court is garbage. There is no strategy only shoot 3s and occasionally bang down low - no foul called on offence - go to the line - repeat.

It is street ball with 5 people on defense and one person on offense while the rest run around with no purpose waiting on a pass that they will give back..
