He said they don’t care about the regular season and for a lot of players basketball in general. Just going through the motions for the most part.

I think that describes Jokic by his own admission. Thing is, he can do it and still hang a triple double.

Effort is generally low, and the load management for most players (especially the big contracts) is ridiculous, imo.

Can't do it on offensive stats. Pretty much any player these days can roll out of bed and score 20 with how garbage the defensive effort is

I haven’t watched regular season basketball outside of a handful of games in a decade. Other than looking at the standings every once in a while, I have no clue what’s going on.

Well basically every team makes the playoffs. I would think naturally you work less / save yourself for the playoffs.

Its because there's really nothing at stake with so many regular season games. When you can be .500 and still make the playoffs why go all out?

Reduce the season to 60 or fewer games. Games are no longer meaningful. You can drop 20 games a season due to lack of effort or taking games off for “load management” and still be a top half seed in playoffs

Saw someone blame Lebron but this load management BS is all on Kawhi Leonard. It was a big story when he started doing it, now it’s common practice by every max contract player

Kareem didn't work hard enough on defense. And lots of times, he didn't even run down court.

You have to remember players didn't make generational wealth back then so players needed a side hustle in the off-season.

Kareem was tired a lot and needed to conserve energy for his Trans American flights.

Yeah we love watching teams just jack up a hundred threes the whole game and flop around like soccer players

There are too many games and not all of them matter

Who doesn't love 3-point shooting contests?

My original comment was sarcasm but it is very hard to pick up on through text.

The NBA is dogshit. I haven't watched a single game since 2020. The NBA was probably my favorite league as a kid since 1990

As one sportswriter for SI so eloquently put it 40 years ago, "The NBA plays 82 games to eliminate Cleveland".

Everyone getting Michael Jordan in his prime guaranteed annual contracts might have something to do with it.

As much as it sucks for some NFL players, they have it dialed in where guys bust their arse to get out of the Rookie contract, the next ones are never that long, so they bust their arse harder for the last one. You get 8-12 years of balls to the wall play with that setup.

Player power is the root of all of that.

Yea, ~10 less games would really solve things.

Yep. Everyone loves to wash David Stern's balls about what a wonderful commissioner he was. He was the one who pushed star power over the team. This is what led to egotistical shite like "I'm going to take my talents to Miami" and stars dictating coaching hires and personnel moves. He's the dolt who planted the seeds for the sport's issues.
