Is this what we got to look forward to every yr? NIL basically killed team culture and the small schools. Whose bright idea was this again? College sports is f-ing ruined

Its only boring because your favorite team lost. Me and my buds are having a blast watching great basketball!

It’s boring because 31/32 first round games were blowouts. Hardly any buzzer beaters and zero upsets. It’s alright to admit this March Madness is the worst probably ever and NIL is 100% to blame.

It's been a terrible tournament but it could be just a bad year. If next year is the same then I'll start blaming it on other factors

Mid Majors are gone forever.

If they happen to get a good player.......he is gone.

If only there was a rule that would require a player to sit out a year before transferring.....................

Yes, this is the new normal. There was a podcast about this a while back and a couple guys were talking about how NIL will affect basketball the most because you just need a couple stud players

They said the days of the Loyola Chicago and Butler are gone

If those guys even sniff a good player, the top 15 goals will cherry pick them apart

Robert Morris’ whole starting lineup went in the portal this weekend

Yes. Those mid majors that historically have always done so well and have so many NCAA Championships and Final 4s

Mid-majors don't need to win the title or go to the Final Four. The purpose they served was to create drama, madness, to make the path more difficult and unpredictable.

Yesterday's games just flat sucked. Both winners jumped out fast and controlled the game. Outcomes were not in doubt. Boring.

And that is what it’s about. People expect TOO much these days. They want every game to be a nail biter but that just doesn’t happen.

Mid-majors don’t make runs every year. I feel like threads like this happen every few years and then the year after we’ll see a mid-major make another run.

The issue wasn't just a lack of mid-majors making a run.

1. The seeding held up crazy well at every level, even the later ones.

2. There were an extremely high number of blowouts. 60 games so far and felt like only about 4-5 actually came down to the final minute. That's crazy as hell for basketball.

It is one only year so time will tell if this was a fluke or not but this was not March "Madness" and if this becomes the norm the interest will tank.

I don't care so long as coach finds a way to get me my money.....or I'll find one that can.

Isn't that a good thing?

People always like to complain about seeding being wrong when the selections are announced, but it seems like they got it right this time.

That's legitimately a bummer.

watching great basketball!

There hasn’t been a ton of great basketball, a handful of good games in the tournament, one of which most of the country didn’t even see.

I know the hardcore fan wants to say “well the ratings show no one likes Cinderella and this will result in better games later on!!!!”

But yeah so far that’s not even true, the higher seeds are not only just winning but covering. It hasn’t been a good year for the tournament and that’s ok to admit.

The NCAAT has always been a shitty way to determine your champ…but it was a highly entertaining product to watch. You lose that when you shrink the field down. Hopefully this year was just an anomaly but not sure how you can course correct this, mid majors will continue to be developmental leagues for the top tier teams.

This was the strongest top of the field I’ve ever seen.

The top 7 teams were so much better than everyone else, and the computer data from Ken Pomeroy shows this as well.

Duke has the highest rating of any team of the past 25 years, and the top 4 teams (not coincidentally the Final 4) each have higher ratings than the majority of champions.

It's not like the small schools ever actually win. So the whole exercise is kinda silly.

a tournament going straight chalk is not what draws in casual eyes to the sport. the unpredictable nature and crazy endings do.

I personally prefer upsets and unpredictability, but when that does happen, it doesn't necessarily lead to more casual eyes to the sport:

NCAA men’s title game hits record-low, still tops hoops charts
quote:

One day after the women’s tournament finished with a record-high, ratings and viewership hit record-lows for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament final.

Monday’s UConn-San Diego State NCAA men’s basketball national championship averaged a 7.8 rating and 14.69 million viewers on CBS, down 15% in ratings and 14% in viewership from Kansas-North Carolina on TBS, TNT and TruTV last year (9.1, 17.05M) and the lowest rated and least-watched title game on record.
