If they're going by total history which, given the slams on program history going back 70 years, they are, then they're missing some really bad teams from the Big 12 and ACC.

At the least, they're missing Wake Forest and Kansas State, which have some of the least wins in D-I over the past 80+ years. Considering how many wins K-State had under Snyder in the 90s, think about how bad they must have been before THAT.

No way. They won the West in '98 and lost to Tenn. They've had some bad years lately, but they weren't always terrible. I think they've been better than Washington, WSU, Zona, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, Syracuse, Vandy, Kentucky, Baylor, Indiana, Northwestern and Duke lately.

Washington has finished a season #3 in the country this decade.

That list is not accurate. Kentucky has been decent at times in the last 20 years, and Northwestern has been above average too. NU has won at least six games every year but one since '03 and been to at least a few Bowl games.

From 97-00 State won the most games of any team in the West, has been to ATL, had a 10 win season, etc....it's certainly not comparable to Vandy, at least not in the modern era.

4. Mississippi State (Vandy of the West)
5. Indiana (doesn't care enough about football)
6. Duke (Cutcliffe could get lucky one day)
7. Minnesota
8. UConn
9. Michigan State
10. South Florida

South Florida I definitely disagree with

they are just getting rolling as a program, in the middle of the richest talent base in the country and in a winnable conference

I would say sleeping giant like A&M and a very small list of other schools

yes to vandy, baylor, isu tho

minnesota isn't bad, just painfully average

michigan state is a decent not great program - if the big ten had a down year they could sneak away with a conference title

Minnesota has been dreadful the past few years on the field, but I'm hoping for improvement now that they have their own stadium, practice facilities, etc. That being said, they probably belong in the bottom 10 performers of the BCS schools, but likely have the best chance of the bunch of improving over the next decade.

because the football team that you root for is the first thing you look for in a college

They are - they get the automatic bid if they win X amount of games basically. They're not part of a conference, but they do get an auto bid which makes them part of it.

Well, they WERE a BCS program until the mid-2000s, when they were kicked out of the Big East for being non-competitive.

Since the inception of the BCS era, these teams have never made a BCS Bowl:

SEC -
Arkansas
Mississippi State
Mississippi
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
South Carolina

Big 12 -
Baylor
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Missouri

Big Ten -
Michigan State
Minnesota
Northwestern
Indiana

Pac-10
California
Arizona
Arizona State

ACC -
North Carolina
North Carolina State
Duke
Boston College
Virginia

Big East -
UConn
Rutgers
Syracuse
South Florida

Of these, here's who at least played in a coalition or alliance game in the mid-90's or so...

Northwestern
Arizona State
Syracuse
Virginia (early 90's...so what)

Of the remaining teams, here's who has at least gone bowling a few times...

Arkansas
Mississippi State
Mississippi
Kentucky
South Carolina
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Missouri
Michigan State
Minnesota
California
Arizona
North Carolina
North Carolina State
Boston College
UConn
Rutgers
South Florida

That leaves these teams as the ultimate sucky teams:

Vanderbilt
Baylor
Indiana
Duke

My other choices to round out a top 10 of shitty teams would be:

Iowa State
Mississippi State
Rutgers
Syracuse
Virginia
Minnesota

That is if I go by that formula, because teams like Colorado, Wazzu, Stanford, Washington, etc...have had some shitty seasons, but managed to make a BCS game in their time.

Jackie Sherrill cheated.

And no way they can compete now with a clean program and the money the rest of the West is throwing at their programs.

And again, you're missing my point on the other thing. I don't think they are going to get to the BCS any time soon, AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN THERE YET.

Is Purdue worse than Michigan currently and historically. Probably. Same for Illinois. But they've been there. Michigan had one chance when Saban was their coach, and the BCS still chose Michigan over them.

Last of their teams to make it to the NCG was FSU in 2000. Pretty sure that is correct. Lost to OU 13-2. Correct me if I am wrong.

Baylor had a #2 overall pick in the draft and a potential Heisman contender.
