The Winter Olympic hockey uptick in viewership went away very quickly.

Only 5.9M viewers for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final between Carolina and Vegas.

For comparison:

Knicks vs Spurs (Game 5) 24.5M
UCONN vs Michigan (March Madness Final) 18.3M
Blue Jays vs Dodgers (World Series Game 7) 25.9M

Was hoping what the US team did this past February would drive up NHL interest but I guess I was mistaken.

Casuals don’t want to watch hockey between two warm weather teams in June.

People were watching the US. They don't actually care about hockey

Thr Stanley Cup Playoffs were the most-watched on record. Can’t really compare NHL ratings to NBA, MLB or national championship games.

Team USA interest and NHL interest are very different things. People jump in for international competitions. See Team USA in world cup.

Something about ice hockey and 90 degrees outside just doesn't jive.

Same with this World Cup nonsense. No one will watch MLS later in the season after the fad hype wears off

This. I've become a sicko for soccer, watching multiple games each day, but when the Cup is over I'm done with the sport.

That doesn't mean much. A lot of American soccer fans who follow the sport year-round don't watch MLS.

Pretty sure MLS isn’t even the most watched soccer league in America

I didn't even watch the women's league in 2015, and that was an awesome World Cup run.

It's down to teams from Vegas and one of the Carolinas. No one cares.

That can't be it. The Finals has featured two "hockey" towns only once in the last decade.

No real superstars on Vegas or Carolina. They’re just not likeable teams either. Carolina plays a snoooozefest type of hockey. Vegas is Johnny come lately and hasn’t “earned” it being given a pretty big head start at roster building when they were originally constructed.
