reminds me of the TDF a couple years back when hail and a mud slide forced them to cancel stage 19

That was such a badass move by Remco until the lady sent him into full Hinault mode...

Post 2 updated with current stage and overall results

Jonas looks good still. He said again before this one it won't be won in week 1. Let's see if that holds true. He finished a good bit in front of Rog as well to secure 2nd on the stage. Going to be interesting to see how that plays out as well within JV.

TTT in the dark. Downpour. Road furniture. Rider neutralizations. Lady sending Remco into a barricade. The Vuelta has it all.

At least todays events where mild compared to the other days. Take a look at what might have happened yesterday…

Another cluster today when the barrier tightened up the radius and Van den Berg eats the barrier. There was no reason for that barrier to have to come in like that, at least none I could see from the overhead.

And we thought France would provide shenanigans last month due to the protests.
This has been... not the TDF.
Stage 5 Mañana. Results updated in post 2 shortly.

I’m still mostly curious about the JV strategy. They are all there still and Rog is only a few seconds behind JVG. They will win the overall team imo (although based on the first week there’s no guarantee of anything in this thing) but JVG has the same strategy he did last month and when he feasts he feasts and knows EXACTLY when to start eating. He lost a few more seconds the last couple days but still nothing to him. And then there is Rog. This is gonna be a good one regardless of the early shenanigans.
Post 2 updated earlier with current standings etc.

Kuss is 6 minutes up on the peleton with two teammates. Hopefully gets a chance to go for the stage win.

#GCKuss is alive and well

Keep the losses in the TT to under 2 mins and go thermonuclear on the Angliru

I’ll have drink with Sepp anytime. Did anyone catch the podium drink he took today? Fantastic! I wish JV would get behind Sepp for this one but we all know that’s probably not in the cards. All the work he’s done will not be reciprocated imho. Great stage today. PR and JV started to work on RE today and did damage, but it looks like Remco did limit the damage towards the end. Both the JV boys at the end looked haggard as well. Remco putting on his jacket at the finish looked odd…like his arm might be bothering him from the guardrail crash the other day. This race still has a LONG way to go. The steep climbs to come might favor JV but Remco might fair better on the Tourmalet stage with these diesel like climbs. Having said way to much, someone from Jumbo probably wins this…mainly because their team is so strong.

If Remco isn't keeping up on a 20 minute climb, that's a very bad sign for him. He'll need to take big time in the TT. Jonas is clearly not on his top form.

I’m in total agreement with you on these steep, sharp climbs. The Angliru probably decides the Velta, but the longer, less steep and more steady climbs on the Tourmalet stage will suit Remco better imo. But, you’re right, Remco better take a huge chunk on the TT if he has any chance at this one.

Last 6 KMs today have been nothing but crashes. One rider is down and not moving and EMS tending to him. Didn’t see who it was and they cut away from the aerial shot rather quickly
