It has given smaller programs an actual chance to compete against the “football factories”

Also, I don’t mind the NIL - I just wish that they would find a way to cap it. If they don’t cap it then I feel it’s going to destroy the NFL.

If I’m a college kid making millions in college - I’m set for life. Why even try to want to play in the NFL if I’m already filthy rich from NIL money?

Why be a drama queen? Players have been getting paid for decades under the table, now it's official.

That might already happen with major cable companies making their cuts.

Well I can’t tell you the last time Duke beat a power house football factory school in this fashion.

You mean to tell me that the transfer portal had absolutely nothing to do with that?

well, I mean do you really think that Duke's transfers were the difference over Clemson's?

list off all the Duke transfers compared to the Clemson transfers.

I can guarantee you that a high school stud ain’t thinking about going to play football at Duke in Durham, NC

What happens is that the stud high school football player - (who thinks he’s a stud) gets on one of these football factory teams and quickly realizes that he ain’t shite. When this happens they start looking at other playing opportunities and probably starts thinking about their football afterlife (which won’t be the NFL) so graduating from college becomes a lot more important than trying to get to the NFL - they pick a situation where they can still play football while actually getting a good education.

And the new clock rules (now way more commercials) might kill it.

I do get a general feeling that the re-distribution of talent has resulted in more overall talent playing on the field now. Guys are no longer willing to be a 3rd stringer in a loaded position group when they know they can be a starter with better NIL prospects elsewhere.

I've had a mostly neutral "wait-and-see" attitude towards NIL and the portal, but so far I like the surprise improvements we're seeing in some programs.

What you are describing makes sense to an extent. But by and large it seems like it usually works the other way just as much if not more - studs at small schools leave to a big name school to capitalize on better NIL exposure/money.

I have no evidence to back the above point up. But it seems the days of a stud staying out at a small school for their career will become much more of a rarity

There are guys in the MAC with decent NFL prospects.

Kind of surprised they don't move up, but different strokes for different folks.

Dabo doesn’t believe in the portal so whoever Duke brought in is automatically better than the single transfer (a senior QB) that went to Clemson.

No, it’s going to start making it harder to compete for the smaller schools. Duke is a really good football team with a grea t coaching staff.

1. The powerhouses are beginning to pay for walk-ons. So some of the smaller schools are getting non-scholarship players as preferred walk-ons and paying them a stipend. These are the same kids that would be solid players at the group of 5 or FCS level.

2. FCS and group of 5 (and even D2) have been getting power 5 transfers for years now, that’s not new. What’s beginning to happen now is that anyone who has a big year at the smaller level is moving up. True studs aren’t staying at the lower levels anymore.

Just look at the scores of FBS teams vs FCS this Saturday. The gap between the two is getting bigger.

Duke has some athletes.

They had some good transfers, but this is not 1984.

The modern passing game helps even things out.

Dabo is a little old fashioned. Turner is a starting WR. Giving a friends kid a scholarship is on thing, starting him is another. Kid flat dropped the ball.

Duke looked faster than Clemson overall.
