I would prefer people to stay where they sign, but if regular students, as well as coaches, can go to different universities without a penalty, I don’t see why sports players can’t. I think you’re just posting this because you are mad that people are transferring out of LSU

25 man signing class limit needs to end if the portal stays.

Also, the rich will get richer due to the portal.
And they won’t get richer if a signing limit is lifted? A select few teams would hoard all the best recruits even more than they do now

The universities have no one to blame but themselves for that result.

The problem is trying to replace those that leave due to the limit to your counters.
#1 it hurts your signing class as you are limiting opportunities for those teams that don't sign 25
#2 if you sign 25 than you are limited in to taking in transfers

So, for example, if it's true that Ricks is looking to leave. Not only do you lose Ricks but you also lose the opportunity to replace him if you have already filled your 25 limit.
Therefore you are falling below your 85 most likely which I guess you could fill with walk ons but then that creates competitive imbalances with the teams you are trying to compete with.

It's typical with the NCAA though, in allowing or changing rules they don't take into account the inequities it creates as far as numbers go so then they have to go back and try and fix the mess they create in the first place.

Also, you have so many in portal now that will never find another place to play and I don't think that was the intent of it.
that's the real/biggest issue. Current recruits are missing out on opportunities they normally would have a better shot at with the combination of volume (number of players in the portal)_ and limitations (25).

There are more players in the portal than there are Div-I spots left for this recruiting year.

I see only one "band aid" solution, i.e. leaving the current rules (minus Covid exceptions) in place and "tweaking it". And that is once you enter the portal you can't go back to the originating school. And financial aid stops immediately; you don't have to pay anything back, and you can stay enrolled, but you will not receive any future financial aid in the future.

This would also solve the problem of "shopping around" to continue the "bidding process" in addition to in general providing some consequence for the decision/action to slow down the volume.

As far as the portal itself, it really only created two related issues:
1. Used to if you wanted to transfer you had to contact schools you wanted to attend and get a waiver for that transfer (LOI release). But now you're on an internet market for all +130 teams to see (while technically still at your originating school).

2. Because you're on the Internet Home Shopping Network if you are transferring to get ahead of suspension or other there's lots of teams that might not know what they are "buying". LSU is certainly not going to field all those phone calls and requests for information.

Let's take the portal away the same time we refuse to let coaches switch jobs until their contracts run out

Athletes are one of the major reasons why a college degree is becoming increasingly devalued.

I always find it comical that a board full of adults that have quit multiple jobs and left multiple situations for situations that better suited them, lambast kids for doing the same.

This is the real world. People leave for better situations all the time.

Not me. I started out at McDonald’s and will retire at McDonald’s. Kids these days have no loyalty.
