Young athletes now can just decide to move on with no just cause. It promotes quitting and taking the easy way out.

Commitment is no longer honored today, and I am not surprised. Receiving a full scholarship from a college/ university is an honor, not a temporary trial period. I understand that there are special circumstances, but with thousands in the portal, it is out of control.

IMO, it is a bad idea for college athletics.

Guys could transfer before the portal. You’re getting mad at a database.

Oh geez. You should be able to transfer between schools if you want to.

It's a double edged sword. The question you should be asking is: Do the benefits outweigh the costs?

Yep. All the "portal" does is collect a database of those wishing to transfer to allow other schools to see who those guys are. Before this season a player still had to sit out a year as a "penalty". Blame the stupidity of the actions taken because of the "pandemic" for the popularity this year...not the players.

But ultimately what do you propose is the solution? Force a kid with a very limited and finite number of years he's eligible to play to remain at a school even if he is unhappy (for whatever reason)?

Do you not see a difference between grad transfers and underclassman transfers?

Yea let's restrict players from making life/business decisions for our own selfishness. Great outlook. These kids only get one shot at this

Regular college students are able to transfer to another school if they wish, why shouldn't athletes be able to do the same? If another school is willing to take them on and give them a scholarship then they should be free to do that.

I know it seems like athletes are transferring more often these days, but you can't fault a kid for doing what they think is best for themselves and their families.

It sucks to lose players to the portal, but don't act like LSU hasn't benefited greatly from the portal in recent years (Burrow, Tracy, Cox, Shanahan).

Why should EVERYONE be allowed to leave besides the athletes?

It's nothing to do with the message being sent by the portal.

It's everything to do with schools getting the message that the bidding is not over

This is a one-time thing that the NCAA MIGHT do because of COVID. I do not believe the "One-time" penalty waiver has been approved yet. If I am wrong, I am sure many people will (quite abusively) let me know in pretty short order.

So what? Is indentured servitude legal? I'm paid very well at my job, but I can quit today if I want to.

You people are weird.
