So in just a few months, we have gone from how can we compete with the Alabamas to how can we compete with the Ragin' Cajuns? ULL has barely scored more points against LSU in football than I have in the history of the series. You have to love the insecurity of this fanbase.

Why did the SEC take Texas A&M instead of Stephen F Auston? SFA just went 33-3 in basketball. Heck, texas Southern would have been a better pick. They won the SWAC tournament and made the NCAA tournament.

Solid post, the Baylor/Louisivile/UCF examples are on point. I think it is a good thing to have a growing in-state competitor. Rising tide raises all ships.

You have to remember that ULM, LaTech, McNeese, Nichols, SLU, NLU are not going to roll over let ULL-USL become that.
Politicians and alumni for those other smaller schools have penis envy and won't just let ULL take all the resources. I would say LaTech especially won't let it happen.
Plus, no one and I mean no one will ever see USL as a potential big 12 member. Heck they offer nothing to the AAU and CUSA.

ULL Baseball Schedule
Calm down.
Also, what would you say are the top 5 wins (all sports)in ULL history? Might wanna give a year with that accomplishment too if you manage to come up with 5.
New Orleans Bowl championships and a 5 inning win against LSU will not set the table for future athletic upgrades to the point of making national noise.
They want to expand their football stadium to 62k? Why?
Can they fill the seats they have now?

Lafayette is not Louisville.
I don't know what Louisville is like but there are lots of rich people in Lafayette. Drive through River Ranch and see the monuments people have built for themselves.
I'm not saying they're ULaLa fans or even LSU fans but there is lots of money in Laffy.

It would get interesting real fast if ULL were invited to join the Big 12 IMHO.
Yes. For the Big 12. If that were to happen I would suspect the Big 12 was on the verge of ceasing to exist.
I'm glad to see ULL having some nice success in athletics, but lets pump the breaks on them becoming a major athletic program. Plus, with college athletes about to get paid (and it's going to happen sooner rather that later) the divide between the major athletic programs and minor ones is going to grow even greater

You are exactly why I hate the rant.

mark Hudspeth is doing wonders at ull.
don't kid yourself into thinking that ull fans think that we will be as good in football as the tigers in our lifetime. none of us think that. some may say it just to frick with you though.
tailgating at ull is awesome. it's more like a festival atmosphere.
they serve alcohol in the stadiums so that makes it pretty fricking cool. especially at a baseball game. on a beautiful day, there's nothing like going drink beer and relax at a bball game. especially when we are #1.
the softball team has always been the best in the state til this point. it hurt to lose Yvette to the tigers but, the lotief's have done a wonderful job.
robichaux has been the coach at ull for quiet some time now and takes a bunch of kids from La. (unlike LSU's 3) and competes well each and every year with them.

There is no comparison. Louisville is a real city (1M plus in the metro) and has plenty of wealth. It also has Humana, Yum!, Papa Johns, Kindred Health, Brown-Foreman, etc. headquartered there. Plenty of wealth in Louisville
The OP's comparison to UCF is similarly flawed, since UCF is a much larger school and finds itself in the suburbs of Orlando, which, again is a much bigger city than Lafayette
No one will deny the Lafayette economy is doing well, but the city is a burg compared to the others mentioned

In the business world , you don't expand until you you have reached capacity. ULL never sells out at home games in football and most games there are plenty of empty seats. Their market is almost exclusively Lafayette. So where do they expect the people to come from to suddenly fill 62,000 seats?
News flash! Most River Ranch and rich from Lafayette have season tickets to LSU games. So what if they build the stadium, lose Hudsmith and no additional fans go to games? Who pays for the decision to expand before ticket sales warrant?

Wake me when uLL finally scores a TD on LSU.
Posted on 3/28/14 at 7:40 am to TigersOfGeauxld
The fan base alone will never surpass LSU in size. The attendance can never be the same. Therefore the funding will need compare which means the facilities will take several decades to ever come close to comparison if ever. And kids won't be lining up to play a major sport at an inferior state school. Let them focus on something other than football and they may do well. But it's a different level and always will be.
Posted on 3/28/14 at 7:48 am to TigersOfGeauxld
ULL coaches and administrators should not be allowed to refer to themselves as UL. Not in keeping with the law and is an insult to the University of Louisiana at Monroe! Knock off the charade!

They're not expanding to 62,000. That number is part of late phases of the master plan. The ability to expand Cajun Field over 60,000 if demand is there. Long term planning you see?

Why even come post this here. ULL is doing good things and making nice renovations but no LSU fans care. I am very happy to see the direction the athletic programs are going but I hope it can be sustained. ULL is not a threat to LSU now nor will they be any time soon if ever. Us Cajun fans just need to enjoy what we are seeing now bc its not often our big 3 sports have the type of year like we are having now.
