You need to seriously pump the breaks. I spent just a few years working in college athletics. Was at three different programs, two of which were smaller by LSU standards but much bigger than ULL.
In just those few years I saw not less than 50 venues slated to built or upgraded. Almost all of those projects are still unstarted and I've been out of that field for over five years.
ULL is will always be a solid baseball and softball programs, but they're one football coach leaving away from being exactly where they were a decade ago.

Lastly, Tech, ULM and Tulane are all trying to do the exact same thing as ULL
Exactly. Tulane is building a new stadium with plans for an IPF and other athletics facilities. Their resources are FAR greater and in the long run, assuming they continue to commit to athletics, they have the brightest future of any program in this state not named LSU.
Every other school in the state is competing to be #2, and good for them. But at the end of the day, ULL is a threat to Tech, Tulane, ULM, etc. Not LSU.
We're spending over $100 million on athletic facilities right now. Over $300 million in renovations to Tiger Stadium in the last decade. ULL has an athletic revenue of $10 million when you take away state subsidies. Even with subsidies, it would take their entire athletic department a decade to match what LSU makes in one football season. It's just not comparable.

I just honestly don't see how they can justify doubling their seating capacity when they can't even sell out what the capacity stands at now.
Christ. You realize that the expansion to that number isn't gonna happen right away? There's no definite plan to expand by that much but the long term facilities master plan has the vision for it, if down the road, further expansion is warranted.

yes....people like me and you do. but, the big dogs just buy them for many many other reasons.
Sure...but there has to be an interest for those being given tickets. Despite the now decade plus attempt by elected officials and media in Lafayette, the vast majority of locals still root for LSU. I'd wager that there are more LSU football season ticket holders in the Acadiana area than there are asses in seats at most USL football games. Those folks who root for USL (I'm an alumnus and reserve the right to call the university that forever) are almost exclusively connected to the school in someway. That's not at ALL a bad thing, but to rival the national powers (like the one an hour away in Baton Rouge) you can only do that by virtue of a strong and interested sidewalk alumni base. It's what gets you big time conference affiliations, revenue and national name recognition.
Point being...an average sports fans with no particular affiliation to a school would still, without question, prefer a day at Tiger Stadium versus a day at Cajun Field if given the choice of free tickets.
And look...as an alumnus , it's always pained me to pull against the school. But as a life-long LSU fan, I've always found it disgusting that far too many USL fans are worried about LSU than they have traditionally been with their own success. I know this first hand having listened to this garbage for the past 2 decades plus. I'd never suggest USL "know it's place" and remain content to stay there...but what's the harm in enjoying your own success without constantly feeling the need to measure your dick against one of the most well endowed players in all of college athletics? It's a recipe for unhappiness and forced otherwise indifferent LSU fans to pull support for you rather than toss a little your way.

Curious, does "Louisiana" fill their 31,000 capacity stadium now? Because I wonder where will the butts come from to fill 62,000. Are they gonna bus then in from other states?
And are they getting tax money from La to build it?

There is no bad side to any school in Lousiana other than LSU having upgrades and success in athletics. Especially at LSU's expense. The problem is, until ULL reaches the level of say a Baylor or Texas Tech, they aren't going to be able to keep good coaches around. Tony Robicheaux is ULL's version of Skip Bertman. Minus the national championships, once he leaves their baseball program is going to suffer simply because he's been there so long, and has been pretty damn successful. When their football coach leaves, and he will leave for a better job. ULL will struggle once again, unless they hit the lottery and get themselves another good coach.

Nice objective thread
Ignore most of the rantards that truly believe that EVERYTHING starts and stops with LSU and live and think in a very tiny box.

We won't have trouble getting a good baseball coach. Matt Deggs is already on staff and he'd probably do a hell of a job if he could hire a good pitching coach. Deggs is one of the best hitting coaches in college baseball.

Look at this Feb 2014 report from the state auditor's office.
See Statement A, after page 11. Reported revenues of $18.11 million include $7.55 million (40%) "Direct Institutional Support" (read taxpayer subsidy). They, LA Tech, and ULM are in FBS not by merit and market demand, but by diverting more university funds to athletics than the other state schools do.
