I've never been to the Dome, so I don't know what wall you'd look at?

that is what makes the Rose Bowl stadium unique. It is next to the mountains. You're not sitting in a dome looking at a ceiling.

Cool. Im not watching mountains or ceilings while a game is going on. I guess that's why our opinions differ.

With the Rose Bowl it's not just the stadium...but the atmosphere...especially for the Rose Bowl game and the Rose Parade...the weather...

Those who have been fortunate to attend the annual college bowl game played there will describe the magical moment when the setting sun bathes the San Gabriel Mountains, looming over the stadium's rim, in a golden glow.
i was called a homosexual for saying this on the rant. ive been to the rose bowl to watch usc play and was blown away at the view

Poo Poo on the Coliseum/USC. I'd rather a trip to dumpy Rose for it's Bowl Gm. Also want to see a college baseball game at the Dine.
Pauley Pav and Dodger Stadium for a DodgerDog are better trips imho. Great views and weather, sunset, concessions, etc..
Also enjoyed watching a game at the old generic Big A..
I remember Finley beat Saberhagen 2-1(4 hits vs 2), with Bo Jackson in CF, when some LSU chums lived out there in the early '90s..damn good game.

The mere mention of the Superdome sends chills down my spine. The same can be said about Pro Player Stadium.

People who discount the Dome's role in sports over the past 40 years are pretty clueless. No domed venue in the world has seen as much as the Superdome has.
Then you can throw in the non sporting events- Pope John Paul II visit, the nonmination of George Bush for President, concerts.

It should, it would mean the cr@ptastic history of HTown Football, and one of the US largest metros, had finally done something since Oiler era AFL infancy.
Aren't you an Houstonian and Stro fan?
Clutch City B-2-B is the lone pinnacle, and like say Atlanta Sports, is a shameful history of meh for being one of America's largest cities, full of money to win something of substance, across a myriad of teams and leagues.

You have to admire the people who continuously throw bait out to troll Louisiana people on an LSU message board
You know when the SEC rants finest come here it's going to be good

Neither Wrigley, nor Fenway, nor the Rose Bowl (a joke) can compare to that.
Age =/= History
And from what you've said/implied, you don't realize that the Coliseum > Rose Bowl in every imaginable way in terms of history.

I would place it right with old Cowboy Stadium.
0 Final Fours
0 Title Bouts
0 Papal masses
0 CFB Championships

What does Houston sports history have to do with the Superdome? How much history have NO based teams even made in the Dome?

Add in the 88 Republican National Convention, concerts, Hurricane Katrina, and Sugar Bowls.
And the Jazz used to play there and many MLB exhibition games have been held there. I doubt there are too many other venues that have hosted games for football, basketball, and baseball.

I would put the Superdome and the Georgia Dome in the same tier FWIW. The Superdome has hosted a few more events. That's great...I guess.

2009 Baby..2009..Grand Champeen! I rest my case.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the Mercedes-Bemz Superdome hasn't hosted many, great sporting events.
However, there's really no business putting it on the level of a Dodger Stadium, Fenway, Wrigley, old Yankee Stadium, the Colesium, the Rose Bowl, Cameron Indoor, MSG, etc.
There's no aura or atmosphere with the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It's not a place on anyone's bucket list of "must see" stadiums.
I got chills when I went to Dodger Stadium last summer despite the Dodgers being God awful and the stadium being half full. There's just something about Chavez Revine that you can't find in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
ETA: In terms of strictly history, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is definately top 10 sports venues. However, if you're incorporating a stadium's draw or aura or atmosphere it's not an attractive place to go visit.

UGaDome suffers from old 'Indy/Minny Syndrome'..aka Denver Airport..aka has a Ziploc Baggy on it's head..until redone.

Wrigley is a great museum with less historical significance than the Superdome.
Fenway: 1 NFL Title, 0 CFB Titles, 0 Final Fours, 9 World Series, 0 Title Bouts, 0 Papal Masses
Rose Bowl: Not even dignifying it by putting it in the same category as the Superdome.
These three have an aesthetic advantage over the Superdome, but the Dome kicks their asses historically.
