None of them are bucket list places dude

I would think most folk's indoor bucket-list arenas, would be fairly intimate, not cavernous domes?
Plus, limited availability adds to the allure, like Cameron Indoor, Phog Allen,etc..

You Louisiana homers are crazy. There's not a damn soul outside of Louisiana that wants to make a trip to the Superdome based on its history. It's just a concrete eyesore. There's no charm to it. It looks like a dungeon on the inside with the bad lighting.
By all accounts the Rose Bowl is a shithole too. No one wants to make a trip there because it is a nice venue or because USC plays there. CFB fans want to play in the Rose Bowl because of the Rose Bowl game and the games history.

People make special trips to the Rose Bowl, Wrigley Field, and Cameron Indoor Stadium because it is unique or the atmosphere. The Dome doesn't have that
bullshite. Bourbon and the New Orleans atmosphere is about as unique as anywhere else. You may have qualms with the stadiums condition [which has gotten a major facelift since Mercedes took over], but people like to get fricked up downtown and see the sights and sounds of New Orleans.

yep...I would also add Madison Square Garden to this list, even though it is larger in size.

Is all of NO actually inside the Dome?

I don't care about what is going on down the road. This is about the stadium itself.

I guess if I had "bucket list" stadiums, they would be
Wrigley
Fenway
Lambeau
I guess it's personal taste. I would never go out of my way to visit a venue unless my team was playing there

you obviously havent stepped foot in the dome after the renovations.
it looks great (minus the terrace i hear) and if the lighting was any brighter, i couldnt see the game

Won't be legit til it hosts a WrestleMania IMO.
I'm pretty surprised this hasn't happened yet. Didn't the Georgia dome host it last year? I haven't watched wrestling in almost 10 years, but if it was in NO I would go just because it's wrestlemania.

don't really care about the renovations...there is no charm or uniqueness to the building.

Well, you can't have one without the other. The Superdome is part of New Orleans. You put the dome most anywhere else, and I would bet it doesn't get a fraction of the events it has hosted. New Orleans is part of what makes the Superdome special.
Also, the topic of the thread is "place in stadium history." As far as that goes, the Superdome is pretty well set. It has hosted more than its share or the largest events, and will continue to do so. I would imagine the majority of people around the country know of the Superdome just like other top arenas. The Dome by itself may not be a destination, but the events and the city make it one.
I think the only actual venues I would care about seeing without any special event are probably Wrigley and Fenway.
I also like how you had nothing to say about the shity condition of the Rose Bowl.

People make special trips to Rose Bowl? Cameron? Give me a break
I remember some guy rode his motorcycle from Chile to the Rose Bowl for the World Cup...that was a special trip.
But seriously, I do wonder if the Dome will ever be revered no matter how much it hosts? It's more a utility stadium like a plowhorse...very useful but you're not parading it to the world.
The Superdome bid for the final or semifinal of the 1994 World Cup but was awarded none - (Silverdome was the first indoor stadium to host WC matches.)
There's a reason the Rose Bowl was the site of the final of both the men's and women's World Cups...sure it seats a lot but it's the advertisement to the world...this represents us at our best.
With the Rose Bowl it's not just the stadium...but the atmosphere...especially for the Rose Bowl game and the Rose Parade...the weather...
quote:
Those who have been fortunate to attend the annual college bowl game played there will describe the magical moment when the setting sun bathes the San Gabriel Mountains, looming over the stadium's rim, in a golden glow.
(And USC plays in the Coliseum - another historic landmark - two Olympics.)

No one cares about Cameron Indoor except for Duke fans, no one cares about the Rose Bowl stadium, people just care about the Rose Bowl game. If people did care UCLA football games would sell out every game. People care less about Wrigley too. The Cubs havent won shite since 1908. Nobody and i mean nobody gives a rats arse about Jordan frickin Hare.

Are the San Gabriel mountains actually in the Rose Bowl stadium? Is the parade in the stadium?

So, let me turn this on its head, if the Dome is as you say:
why the frick do such a large range of events choose the Dome as the events host? I mean not a damn soul wants to make that trip. Seems like a pretty shity business decision to host your largest event there, like the Superbowl or the Final Four.

+1 million
If Oregon is ever lucky enough to make it back to the BCS NC, I hope it's in Miami, Pasadena, or Glendale. I do want to visit NOLA but not to see a big football game in this stadium.

By your definition, what makes a stadium historic?
The age, or the events that took place on them? The way it looks? Whether its a "bucket list" stadium? WTF?
Gettysburg is just a stupid wide open area of undeveloped land had an iconic war not been fought on it.
No, the Superdome is not on the level of Wrigley or Fenway. Or even Lambeau. But keep in mind baseball was the first game played in Amercia. Those stadiums are not only old, but unique and have many historic moments. The Dome is not quite as old, obviously, but you can't discount the historic moments played in there because you think it's ugly.
A place is historic because of what has happened there. The old "if walls could talk". The Dome has 40+ plus years of 'A'level events crammed inside. Few venues can matchup, if any.
