His dad never sold the house because he liked the easily accessible nostalgia. If Earl wanted, he could go see the Obi-Wan Kenobi poster still hanging on Tiger's closet door, or find an old Nintendo or Lego Star Destroyer. Earl died three steps from his son's old room.

There were no Lego Star Destroyers in Tiger's time

Then there's the story of the lunch, which spread throughout the Naval Special Warfare community. Guys still tell it, almost a decade later. Tiger and a group of five or six went to a diner in La Posta. The waitress brought the check and the table went silent, according to two people there that day. Nobody said anything and neither did Tiger, and the other guys sort of looked at one another.

Finally one of the SEALs said, "Separate checks, please."

The waitress walked away.

"We are all baffled," says one SEAL, a veteran of numerous combat deployments. "We are sitting there with Tiger f---ing Woods, who probably makes more than all of us combined in a day. He's shooting our ammo, taking our time. He's a weird f---ing guy. That's weird s---. Something's wrong with you."

Wow
I think that piece showed how Tiger doesnt really view himself as an ultra rich stud celebrity. He thought he was just another guy at dinner

Phenomenal article. I didn't know anything about his military obsession and how that shaped his life. I've always viewed Tiger as one of the most driven athletes of all time. Hard to believe winning majors doesn't seem to mean that much to him.. when that's all he has ever seemed to portray throughout his career.

At least Jordan was honest...to the readers if not to Woods personally.

"I love him too much that I can't tell him he'll never be great again."

This is what was so frustrating about Tiger in 2012-13. He played great golf at times. Sometimes brilliant during this stretch but he couldn't put it together for stretches of time. Week after week, like he used to.

He was 6th in total driving in 2012, 2nd in scoring average in 2012, putted great for stretches in 12 and early in 13. He just couldn't put it together.

In the 2013 Presidents Cup, he was showing signs of brilliance. He was knocking down flags left and right.

It's still there, if he can every get 100% healthy. I'm not talking about dominating but he could easily win a couple of times a year on tour.

Didn't realize this was the main discussion thread for this article. I'll repost what I wrote in the other thread.

Wow, really nice read. Being 29, tiger was my Jordan, as I was a bit young for most of Jordan's career. He was a whirlwind of a talent. He blew onto the scene seemingly instantaneously, and has disappeared from playing almost as quickly. I love golf, even played on the collegiate level. But I always have a hard time watching when he isn't on the course. He made golf far more exciting than it was before him. He made the game seem more visceral, which attracted the more average sports fan. Not just old white men who believe golf etiquette is a way of life.

Like all men, there is the public persona, and then there is the real man. None of us could handle being exposed the way he was, and it's ignorant to act like we know what he went through. It being self afflicted changes nothing in that regard. Can only hope he finds a way to become comfortable with himself and his life.

Tiger's god complex- "The Chosen One" mind set did him in.

Good. Golf is way better without him.

He definitely has some issues, but hopefully he can overcome them. It would be fun to see him on the leaderboard again.

Nothing we didn't already know.
You already knew Tiger didnt really care about the Majors record? You already knew Tiger really wanted to join the military instead of playing golf? There was a shite load of stuff in there that was not known

the writer and tw's friends are full of it if they think he didn't care about jack's 18 majors, imo ... the military interest was known ... there were articles several years ago about his interest and training with the seals ...

Arnie and Jack before the internet age proves you completely wrong.

Arnie's Army mean anything to you?

A top 2 golfer of all time crashing and burning at the age of 34 is not good for the game of golf.
