Ummm, North Dakota lost the Sioux nickname years ago and a large portion of the fan base still hasn't gotten over it. So no, Sioux was not safe from the cancel culture.
These nicknames aren't about being racist or derogatory to the cancel culture, it's about power. It's about the power to take something away from a group of people who love and support something. Some people just want the power to impose their viewpoint on others. When they are done they just walk away. They don't really care about the nickname or the people that are "oppressed".
