The biggest addition next season will be a healthy Yu Darvish

Hopefully we do more than that

I'm still reconciling winning 95 games given the injuries you mention and free agent starting pitcher disasters (Darvish and Chatwood) and my consistent frustration with the team throughout the season.
The RISP issue was prevalent last year and became even worse this year. 40 games with 1 or 0 runs is unacceptable for a team with this talent. Heck I thought Murphy was the best hitter in baseball the last few years and he comes here, hits well for two weeks and then turns into the rest of the team. He looked flat out average to mediocre at the end of the year, nothing like the feared hitter the Cubs used to see with the Mets and Nats.
I'll give KB a pass with the injury but he hit like warm crap last year too with RISP...in fact he was terrible.
I think there was some entitlement last year and residue of that this year. That needs to be dealt with and whether that is through personnel re-distribution or attitude adjustment I don't know but that's what needs to happen IMHO to get them to play as they should.

It's been an issue with this team even in 2016. I think we were ranked last in the league. It's not the end all be all stat, but with how this team seems to constantly struggle with it is mind boggling.

KB has been flat out awful the last two years in this dept. When the face of your franchise consistently doesn't hit with men in scoring position it speaks to the overall depth of talent that a team can still win as much as it does.
Which is part of the frustration, I think there's a entitlement that comes with that talent that leads to team to coast a good bit, thinking in the end over 162 talent will be enough.

Meh, the few games he did pitch this year he was terrible and he has such a fragile psyche that if a fan boos at him he goes and hides in the corner. That is not a very comforting trait and I expect next to nothing of value from him.
In fact I told a Cub buddy of mine when a few weeks into his rehab saga, that I didn't think he'd pitch for the Cubs again, and I still think he may not.

I couldn't agree more.I thought there were times where the team just didn't play hard this year. Pedro Martinez even did a segment where he pointed that out too.

I think if you watch the Cubs a lot, and I do, there is no doubt. Some days they are mailing it in. I know 162 is a grind but it ain't as easy as it seems just to turn it up when you want, as we saw at the end.

Yep,they will be a better team next year because of it.

Case in point, the 4 against Cincinnati. No reason to get swept there. Split that series and how different is the end of the year.

Exactly, that is one a couple of us said at the time was going to come back and bite the Cubs and it did. But the continued hitting slumps is the recurring nightmare that is the reason.
Considering the disaster that Yu and Chatwood were and the injury to Morrow (though that should have been expected given his history) and Strop at the end of the year, I don't think one could reasonably expect any more from the pitching staff.
The hitting culture was and has been very troubling the last two years under two different hitting coaches. Heck, we even managed to infect IMHO one of the best hitters in baseball in Murphy. He looked lost at the end of the year.

All that said and they're still winning 90+ games a year. That's what's frustrating.

Yep, that's the catch. I probably watched at least parts of 120 of their 164 games this year and I gotta say for the most part it was very frustrating. How they won 95 games with 40 of them being games they scored 1 or 0 runs is a credit to the pitching staff.
But after the last two years there has to be an account made for the offensive issues, whether it's personnel changes, coaching changes (they just tried that this year with Chilli), attitude or philosophy change or all of the above. Cause this shite is maddening.
Again, even Murphy who I though was one of the best hitters in baseball the last 3 years, looked lost at the end of the year. Culture can be contagious and I really believe there's something in the culture that has spawned these continued hitting issues for the Cubs the last two years - teamwide.

As much as we have shite on Chili Davis, some praise needs to be thrown Jim Hickey’s way

Agreed, given the fact that Theo saddled him with two cement blocks at the start to the year (Yu and Chatwood) and closer who had never really closed with a long history of being injured, what he accomplished was phenomenal.
As for Chilli, I'm not quite sure how many hitters a major league hitting instructor influences. KB for instance uses his Dad as a hitting coach, probably takes very little input from whoever the hitting coach is. And he has been atrocious the last two year with RISP. Not sure how many other of these guys have their own hitting gurus.
