Rumor was that Cubs offered Kris an extension in excess of $200 million and he turned it down. Going to be a shite show with all the young talent needing to get paid.

That rumor was shot down by some other connected people. Although, Boras is going to do everything he can to get Bryant to free agency.

I don't really understand the Hamels thing. He had a club option with a $6M buyout that the Rangers would have paid. Seems like it would have been smarter to decline his option, let the Rangers pay him $6M, then sign him to a contract after that. Unless there are rules I don't understand.
Also, some who know more about this than me are worrying that the Cubs are starting to pinch pennies being up against the luxury tax. If that's true, I'm going to get really pissed off. If Harper/Machado doesn't fit, fine; but it better not be because of money.
