Sam Bennett is an extremely talented hockey player.

If he weren't, NHL Central Scouting wouldn't have tabbed him as the No. 1 prospect entering the 2014 NHL Draft.

Scouts found out this weekend, however, that upper-body strength is not the 17-year-old's area of expertise.

Bennett, who racked up 36 goals and 55 assists for the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs this season, failed to complete even one pull-up during testing at the NHL Scouting Combine in Toronto.

I don't understand how that's possible if you aren't fat.

So is this worse than KD only being able to get up 1 rep of 185 on the bench at the NBA combine?

I'd say so.. because 185 is 185 regardless of your weight.

A pull-up uses your own body weight. So if you aren't very big, you are pulling up an amount of weight relevant to your size.

Just looking at the dude and his arms it's pretty sad that he can't do a single pull up. He looks skinny but not Ethiopian skinny. Brah's got to work on those lats.

Just remember, Gretzky was a skinny, lanky lil sucker when he first started in the NHL.

It's all about skating and puck-handling.

Who cares about pull-ups???

I was going to say even I can do a pull-up. But then I thought about it and no I probably can't. I was thinking of a chin-up.

Bennett's not Gretzky. Gretzky scored 72 points in 32 games as a junior. He was also 15. Bennett played 60 games to score 90 points.

Gretzky could be a 100 pounds soaking wet because he was the best player ever. Rules don't apply to him.

No that no if deal imo. If he is as good as projected its not like he will ever gave to fight.

He will get killed on the boards but the good ones know how to use the boards to their advantage.

I still think Ekblad goes first but I don't see it being too big of a problem if he can't do a pull-up. Different muscle groups are far more important while playing hockey. Its all legs and core.

Bennett's a year or two of junior and a proper strength and conditioning coach away from the NHL. I hope to hell the Oilers don't draft him though.
