frick that. At first they came for the saints and you said nothing.
Exactly. The saints got fricked much harder than the Pats for physical actions that were already governed within the rules of the game.

Suspending also sets a dangerous precedent from the players perspective.

The precedent that Roger Klarvin will be mad that one of his players got screwed over. The NFL has been suspending people and doing dumb shite now for years, and every time it happens to another fan base, they act like THIS TIME, THIS TIME THEY WENT TOO FAR.

Actually at first I agreed with the commish, assuming he would come up with some sort of evidence. When it became apparent he had no evidence, I supported the hell out of you guys.

That you need not even be accused of a single legal or league violation to be suspended. It would take conduct detrimental to a whole different level. It would give the league carte Blanche to suspend any player for anything in their private life someone with enough authority disapproves of.

Again, this takes it to a whole different level.
Brady stood accused. The Saints stood accused. Roethlisberger and Hardy were never cleared, the authorities simply didn't press charges as without witness coorperation they had poor cases and the accusers themselves never pressed charges.
In this case Elliott was accused, charges were filed by the accuser and the authorities cleared him as innocent. In the process of that investigation prior to being cleared, the league got involved believing he hit her and now has now spent months trying to drum something up to suspend him for to save face.
EE is currently accused of breaking no laws, violating no enumerated league rules and has been legally cleared of all prior accusations. No such player has ever been suspended in the NFL for any length of time.

Brady was suspended due to cell phone tampering/ destruction and not being forthcoming.... EE is probably going to get similar for doing similar....

Not really. Just follow the courts.

When was Elliott declared innocent by the authorities? Pretty sure they just declined to press charges because of conflicting evidence, etc unless I missed something
Cris Carter also alluded to him possibly destroying evidence but who knows how true that is and if he knows anything at all. But the league rules have always kept open that players can be suspended regardless of whether or not they have been charged with crime. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he gets suspended.
Suspending him would rank pretty low on the list of NFL conduct controversies in the last 4-5 years IMO

Fwiw, Zeke was "accused" of assault allegations.

Yeah I'm pretty sure what happened with Elliott is very similar to what happened with Roethlisberger. Hardy is different since his was tossed on appeal. But Roethlisberger was suspended for 6 games after not being charged

The courts essentially ruled Roger Goodell can suspend anyone for anything for any period of time because the CBA gives him unlimited power.
He can suspend Zeke for the season for not having his shoes tied. That's the way of life until the next CBA. You don't need Due Process, there is no fair trial, there is only Goodell sitting across from you as judge jury and exsecutioner, and Troy Vincent right below him with Rogers balls on his chin
Also Jerry Jones has very recently been lobbying for Rodger Goodell to get a pay cut. You cannot tell me that this isn't related in some way. Goodell actually has some power as he is viewed favorably by the small team owners that always want the big owners head on a spike when shite like this happens. So Goodell is throwing a grenade at Jerry for threatening his position. Which is a ballsy move because if he pisses off the big 4-5 owners in the league, he will be gone regardless of the other 25 owners feelings. This is some game of thrones shite no doubt tho

You're arguing semantics, and I think, quite frankly, you're incorrect. EE was never "proven innocent" to my knowledge. Charges were just never pursued.

The NFLPA has no one but themselves to blame for this, no other professional sport union would have agreed to this policy.

It isn't even that they look incompetent in this whole thing. It's that it is yet another example of a total and complete lack of any semblance of moral integrity on the part of the NFL. Which is ironic given their obvious goal to appear to be completely above board and squeaky clean. They will do anything for the sake of appearances, including unjustly railroading as many people as necessary to promote their image.
The reason why they have spent so long on the investigation is that they are looking for any reason whatsoever to justify punishing Ezekiel Elliott so that they can appear tough on domestic violence and any actual guilt is completely irrelevant. The only thing that matters is serving their desired end.
Their machinations are transparent to me.
