Joyner fined $23,152 for hit on Bridgewater
Fine list
Can anyone fill me in on the random numbers? I assume it's a percentage of something...

The NFL has hit Rams cornerback Lamarcus Joyner in the paycheck for hitting Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the head.
Joyner has been fined $23,152 for the hit, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The NFL determined that Bridgewater was a defenseless player as Joyner hit him, and that’s why Joyner was fined $23,152, which is the standard fine for a first-offense hit on a defenseless player.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was furious about the hit, which knocked Bridgewater out of the game. But Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Zimmer should have controlled his emotion.

I thought this was going to be a thread on officials being careless with the spot of the football.

I didn't know they get fined for putting ball in the stands.

My assumption is it's a percentage of the gross wages per game of the league minimum.

I've been waiting for defensive fines to become more of an issue with the players or the player associations for two reasons:
1) The fines are the same no matter what your contact is. A defensive player like Suh is fined way less, percentage wise, than a rookie or someone making the minimum
2) Defensive players have so many opportunities to be fined, and also possibly suspended and lose game checks, than offensive players do. Should their pay be higher to cover this risk?

Jeff Fisher is in fact a tool though.

All of the numbers derive from a minimum fine of $2500 established by the CBA. Each year, the minimum fine increases by 5%, starting with the 2013 season.
$2500x1.05=2625 was minimum for 2013 season
$2625x1.05=2756.25 was minimum fine for 2014 season
$2756.25x1.05= $2,894
Note all fines are multiples of $2,894, sometimes +/-$1, sometimes not:
example:
quote:
Joyner has been fined $23,152
$23,152 divided by $2,894 = 8

First time I saw the hit. The very definition of targeting.

Jeff Fisher is the greatest human being that ever lived. And if you don't believe that, watch yourself at the bottom of the pile.

I'd like to think it's for an egregious offense, if the league thinks it was an intentional grab. If it was for every facemask, we would have heard some grumbling from the NFLPA, right?

wait, so now if you do a horsecollar tackle you get fined? thats crazy

I would be really pissed if I got fined 25k for a couple of face mask penalties. Those are almost always accidental. Why does the NFL have to get their fingers in this. It's the equivalent of stealing if you think about it.

i hate that face masks are personal fouls... sometimes the defender is trying to play football...
personal fouls should be things you obviously don't do in football... kicking, punching directly at an opponent

I don't think you always get fined for a horse collar or face mask or spearing or whatever. I would think the league would only enforce these fines for the serious ones and not the ones that occur in every game. Just because you get a penalty for it doesn't mean the league will enforce a fine on you.
Or at least I hope they wouldn't. Could be wrong. This is the NFL and Goodell were talking about here.
