The NFL informed teams today that the 2023 salary cap will be a record $224.8 million per club, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

That’s up from $208.2 million in 2022, $182.5M in 2021 (COVID adjustment), 198.2M in 2020 and $188.2M in 2019.

The 55 million dollar QB a year can't be far behind.

In fairness, the excuse was never salary cap restraints, it was not wanting to pay the players. So I'm not sure this actually helps

There is a floor and cash spend requirement under the CBA. Both are represented by the percentage of the salary cap; so I guess it does help in the fact that he has to spend a lot more money now

I remember when people were balking about Dak potentially getting $30m a year. Now there are going to be guys worse than him making $55m.

NFL needs to go ahead and just let teams have 2 or 3 designated players who only count a certain percentage against the cap regardless of how much they make.

Why not? QB salaries are out of control and are making team building damn near impossible. DPs would help teams have better overall rosters and would make it easier to move on from a QB who got a huge deal and then proceeds to bomb out.

There are three teams where the QB makes up 20% of the cap:

Browns
Dallas
Kansas City

Then there are nine teams where the QB makes up between 10-17% of the cap:

Indianapolis
Buffalo
Tennessee
Tampa Bay
Green Bay
Minnesota
Las Vegas
Detroit
Washington

i think 60+ for QBs.

also you're going to start seeing 30 million defenders too.

5 year $150m with 100m guaranteed for corners

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the salary cap for next season isn't known well in advance?
