Those numbers all tell me how niche of a sport each of those are when the #10 attendance school is 50% of the top school.
Imagine if football only had 3 or 4 schools with 100k attendance and the #10 attendance school have less than a Vanderbilt.

Do you think college softball is more popular than college baseball?

pretty sure it is. At least it was a couple years ago.

the all time largest crowd in the history of college softball is a World Series game that drew 12,500 fans (through 2022, last year may have broken that, but would be in the same ballpark number).

that number wouldn't even crack the top 25 largest on campus crowds for baseball, let alone any of the one offs played in MLB stadiums that drew ridiculous crowds.
heck, there are 3 baseball teams just in the SEC whose average home attendance would be in the top 20 of all-time highest ever for women's softball.

the SEC, ACC, and Big Ten for sure all top that for their conference tournaments.
the men's World Series more than doubles that number.

Y'all realize that even in the SEC a majority of schools lose money on baseball, right?

How many women's college basketball teams make money? I am not trying to make the argument that college baseball is more popular than WBB, but 95% of Div 1 female college teams run in the red. And that number is probably low.

If you want to make the money argument, a good place to start would be schools are already sucking on the tit of football to support other sports that cant stand on its on and baseball is a bridge too far.

That’s kind of besides the point. It doesn’t need to be a big draw for ESPN to put stats on their website. Just copy the code they use for their MLB section. An intern could probably do it.

there is literally nobody here who is making the argument that it's some massive revenue generating sport.

nobody is asking for it to be front page and take over SportsCenter.

but it is a growing sport. and every time ESPN adds more content, it grows more.
that alone is reason to justify sinking at least some effort into pushing it to see how much more it can grow.

Professional Lacrosse has it's own page on their website.
and that's a sport where 452,000 people streaming is the largest viewing audience ever in the history of the sport. They recently had a 3 game (over 2 days) total attendance of just over 12,00 that was their best yet.
But they get games televised across nearly the entire ESPN Family (ESPN, ESPN2, ABC).

College baseball absolutely draws more fans than Professional LaCrosse.
and it's not even remotely close.

the NBA G League has their own page.
go ahead and compare those attendance numbers too if you want.
only ratings I could find online for them was from December when a massive 13,000 fans on average watched one of their games televised on ESPNU.
No, there isn't a digit missing from that number.

that's Thirteen Thousand.
according to the box score, there was 1,200 people that bought tickets.

so fewer than 15,000 people total watched a game that got a National TV spot, it's own page on ESPN, etc.

without looking it up, I guarantee you the SEC had multiple teams sell 10,000+ tickets to multiple games this past weekend.
and if you can find streaming views, I would bet a large sum of money that quite a few teams nationally did better than 15,000 total tickets + streams multiple times this weekend.

so with the SEC alone (let alone adding the several teams from other conferences that do very well in drawing interest) drawing more eyeballs than those 2 professional leagues combined, I think they move the needle enough to justify at a bare minimum more coverage than those 2 leagues get.

yeah, comparing it to football is just asinine.

but there's 10-15 or so schools that draw bigger crowds for Baseball than they do basketball.

and only 3 of those are in the SEC.

and without looking at the attendance numbers of all Div 1 schools, I'd be willing to bet there are probably a few more that draw at least similar numbers.

the number of schools with mens baseball teams that sell more tickets per game than women's basketball is even higher.

so no, not football big. but big enough to warrant a little more coverage.

ESPN covers college baseball more than all the other entities combined. They televised countless games every season.

My goodness. Get a grip. They don't cater to it because people don't watch it. Turn on some of the games with teams not in the SEC, including some schools you named. Not everything is political

Now do the WNBA, which they advertise relentlessly

Does what you said not apply to them? Why?

I've lived in CA all my 40 years, and I can tell you the two people I've never met: College Baseball fan and women's basketball fan.

I know that they exist, even here, but percentage-wise they are both so small that they don't move the needle. I've seen showings of Back to the Future that have higher attendance than college baseball.

The only 2 entities I mentioned in the post you quoted were Men's and Women's Basketball.

What ESPN do you have access to that carries Baseball more than either of those two sports, let alone both of them combined?

but the topic of this thread is about having readily available Stats on ESPN's website.
Which they have none of for College Baseball.

all I'm doing is pointing out that college baseball isn't nearly as small of a "niche" sport as people are trying to pretend it is.

probably because its growing as more women are getting more into sports. The resources are there now.

Disparaging womens sports ive never understood. We guys really enjoy watching mens sports, is it so strange that women would enjoy womens sports? Carolina doesnt have a gymnastics team, it doesnt mean I would scoff at Gymnastics being pushed. Someone else may like it

Vanderbilt is probably the only school in the country where baseball is the number one sport.

Which creates this bubble in which they don’t realize they’re isn’t that much interest in College Baseball like they think.
