Only gripe the team has right now is his increase in breaking balls thrown. I believe it's getting close to 50/50. Wash is going to talk to him about his approach, and I have full faith in Maddux to make the changes necessary.
He. Will. Be. Fine.
Nolan is also a big proponent of pitch counts don't matter... Pitch effectiveness does. Pitch count is very much overanalyzed IMO.

Is this guy a fricking moron, SCUBA? seriously. One of the best pitchers in the game today. Struggling for him is like when LeBron goes 10 for 20 with 30 points, 10 boards, and 6 assists. It's a bad game for LeBron, but 99% of the league doesn't get that on their best night.

Yu has had 10 strikeouts only twice since the Detroit game and yet he still has high pitch counts (and in both of those games he gave up four earned runs each time). His best showing since Detroit was the KC game when he had only six strikeouts, but no runs given up and 99 pitches through seven innings
You do realize that video game stats you put up aren't indicitive of actual life performance, don't you?

So we keep the logic consistent:
Verlander only struck out 10+ batters 4 times last year.
He only averaged a hair over 7 innings per game.
He averaged 114 pitches a game.
He gave up 2+ homers 4 times.
Dude sucks, right?
Is it?
Yu 2012 (2013)
6.2 (6.1) - Average Outing
109 (109) - Average Pitch Count
4.27 (4.03) - Batters faced per inning
3.90 (2.95) - ERA
10.4 (12.1) - K/9
4.2 (2.8) - BB/9
7.3 (6.2) - H/9
0.7 (1.2) - HR/9
1.280 (1.003) - WHIP

So answer the question--why is Yu's performance this year considerably worse than last year?

Op is clearly stupid
Ok maybe just knows nothing about the game of baseball
Yu basically dominated the reds today. I'm sure the op says they be no good

Again, failure to go deep into games. It nearly cost us today (Scheppers is clearly showing signs of fatigue; lost the Yanks game and nearly lost this one for us).
Eight strikeouts is great for personal stats, but the Rangers can't bring in Cotts, Ross, Scheppers, and Nathan every game.

he's like a hybrid of Bill James and Stephen A Smith

Unfortunately yes he is. I don't think he can enjoy a win without critiquing the shite out of small details.

Wait wait wait... So you're telling me that he is having a better season statistically than last season? That just can't be. Nope. Not possible.
ETA: I love how we keep bumping these threads.

those "bad" games aren't really THAT bad though. it's not like he's giving up 8 runs in 3 innings in his "bad" games

Well not technically. I mean he IS giving up more home runs. That's a sign of serious decline.
Posted on 6/30/13 at 10:18 pm to Srbtiger06
Right.
But also WHIP is down, walks down, ERA down, and K's up at this point.

Plus he's not giving you 8+ IP every start. I did 7.2 my first season in the bigs on the show. Why can't yu?
Posted on 6/30/13 at 10:32 pm to Srbtiger06
I won the Cy Young and had 14 CG shutouts in my rookie season. AND had a .93 ERA. Yu ain't got shite.
