I'm not denying the fact that he had a stretch of bad starts before the break, but knee jerk reactions in baseball over a course of 4 starts are just stupid.

Even calling it a stretch is a bit much.

He had one bad start on July 6th (5 ER).

The game before that, 6.2 shutout innings (though he did have 4 walks).

And then June 18th and 24th he gave up 4 and 3 ER respectively. That's hardly even "bad."

5.0 is the shortest outing of his year. If you do that, then you are doing something right.

Oh I agree. There was a run of 3-4 starts where he wasn't quite himself. But it appears as though a "bad" outing for Yu is basically a QS.

It was 2 months of starts. Apparently the "disabled list" stint (he wasn't and everyone knows it) turned things around.

March/April 2.33
May 3.79
June 2.31
July 2.95
August 1.93

The two month period between his 130-pitch start vs. Detroit and the July 22 game against New York (I was at that game).

Fun fact:

Yu Darvish has made 23 starts this season. He has allowed 0 or 1 runs in 11 of them.

TERRIBLE

He falling apart though. Really he is. Falling apart. Fading into oblivion. The bum only went 8 innings today with a pedestrian 15 k's. HE'S FADING away cause he's anorexic!!!! The Japanese don't eat enough

Let's check those awful numbers....

Miserable stretch, to be sure.

Yu is already elite, but the only thing from keeping him from being other worldly (Kershaw, Harvey, Wainwright type of dominance) is that he walks too many batters.

If he reigns that in, he's gonna be counting Cy Young Trophies. If he doesn't he's still damned good.

Yep. Always been his issue. Seems as though he has reigned it in a good bit since his time in the majors though. Still a lot of season left, but at this point he's cut his WHIP from last year by almost 1/4 of a point. His K/BB ratio has improved greatly and his ERA is over a point lower.

Only thing that's really increased is HR allowed. But if he keeps pitching like this, I'll gladly take a solo shot every now and then.

I think if the game had been 6-1 in the 9th Wash sends him out to see if he can finish it (his pitch count was actually low for him compared to some prior games). 2-1, and with Nathan not having pitched in a few days, won't argue with that call.
