Aaron, Mays, Clemente, Yaz, Gibson, Robinson, Banks, Kaline...
I've seen both Aaron and Clemente play in person when I was a kid. To me the 70's was the last decade of a golden era for baseball and its never been the same since. Of course that's just one man's opinion, others may feel otherwise

How did you miss the most captivating thing in my baseball viewing experience before the '98 chase and what I really think got America back into baseball?-- Cal Ripken chasing and breaking Lou Gehrig's ironman streak.
I will never forget how exciting it was as a kid seeing that 2131 draped on that beautiful brick backdrop at the most beautiful venue in baseball--Camden Yards. Ripken was a perfect ambassador and the story was the first baseball story to transcend sports for a positive reason that we'd seen in a long time after going through the cocaine era and labor strife.

Sosa and MM had people talking about baseball across the country again.
Don't forget Griffey. At the all-star break, all three guys were on pace to break the record. At the break, McGwire had 37, Griffey 35 and Sosa 33. Griffey had a huge April that year, then McGwire had a huge May. Then Sosa set an MLB record with 20 home runs in June. It really wasn't until August when Sosa and McGwire pulled ahead of Griffey, with Griffey only hitting 15 the last two months of the season. McGwire obviously stretched his lead over both with 15 home runs in September

Greg Vaughn was the forgotten man who was also part of that chase and was part of the color graphic on the front page of the newspaper every day. He kind of tailed off and ended with 50.

If they just would have not had the strike in the mid 90’s. It was not a bad decade but not finishing that one season was a deal breaker….
