Shenanigans aside, plausible is a step above impossible.

This was in essence my solution to the current playoff dilemma. It would get rid of the Cinderella story teams, but the way the playoff committee gives playoff entree preference to P5 (with more losses than G5 teams) that will draw in more money to be made is already doing a fine job of accomplishing that in and of itself. Two separate playoffs is what makes more sense to me than the current format.

And have a 4 team conference playoff to start the overall playoffs.
Conference champions should be playing other conference champions for the national championship

Weeks 1-2 everyone plays a G4 or FCS teams ONLY as a "preseason"
Power conference teams should only play other power teams.
That would gut athletic programs for FCS and G4 teams across the country that rely on playing P4 schools for money. I think it makes sense to have a 2 week preseason where schools can continue to play ONLY those FCS and G5 teams to "warm up" for the year and get those athletic budgets funded with TV Money

It might hurt FCS teams or some of the lower Group teams but it wouldn’t kill off programs.
Ole Miss didn’t pay Tulane millions of dollars to go to Oxford.
So you want to benefit from playing Group teams but don’t want them to have the same chance to win the national title.
If you don’t think Group teams should be in the playoff then don’t play them during the season.

They absolutely need their own playoff, and it's ridiculously stupid to try and force them into the same playoff system as the larger schools.

Ole Miss is favored by 12.5 and Oregon by 21.5. No one wants to seriously watch that shite.
Plenty of people are intrigued by these matchups.
Notre Dame fans really screaming about fairness today

Let them have their version of basketball’s NIT tournament.

No, all you have to do is get rid of the 5 conference champion automatic qualifier rule. It should be 3, and that’s throwing them a bone (them being ‘G5’ and ACC and B12)
Why not just get rid of auto-bids all together? It’s very likely that we will have at least 3 conferences represented in the top 12 teams. Just rank the teams and the top 12 qualify.
