The Future of the Big 12

I hate to admit it, but with Texas/OU leaving for the SEC, the overall quality of the XII is going to take a steep dive. Assuming they can hold onto Leipold, will the Jayhawks become the top dog in the conference within the next few years?

Compared to the B1G and SEC, yes but they are easily the #3 conference in the land. Yeah, its a bit of a big midget scenario but they're faring better than the ACC or Pac-2.

Also Big 12 is a basketball conference at this point and should embrace that. Arizona was a smart choice and Arizona State/Utah were alright. Now go after Gonzaga.

If the Big12 had it to do over again, they probably wouldn't have added the AAC teams, but they didn't know the PAC teams were going to be available.
My hope is that OK State gets rolling and becomes a perennial playoff participant.

KU has not so secretly reached out to the Big Ten in last couple of years. The Big 12 is the third best conference at this point, and they've positioned themselves to a spot where they are the most viable option for teams not in the SEC or Big Ten. There will be a power vacuum, but I think there will be a couple of schools that become the new leaders in the next 3-4 years. It could be Kansas, but Arizona will be in a good spot, Colorado has some momentum with Deion, K-State has generally been consistent, and Utah has won the PAC-12 the last two seasons.

It will be like the old Big East. There won’t be a consistent top dog, and there won’t be a perennial bottom feeder either. Should be close and entertaining.

Why ???… neither one has won the league in the last two years… TCU made the title game just last year… I could see UT, OU and Neb. one day going back to the B12

But at least the ACC has a national championship threat in FSU and Clemson and maybe even Miami and I guess you could count ND if you wanted. Big 12 doesn't have anything close to that.
I still have the ACC #3 overall.

If Deion stays at Colorado, they might actually have a considerable talent advantage over the other teams in that conference in the future. I do think it’s unlikely he stays there for the long term though

I get it. At the time they added the AAC schools, it made sense.
Cincy will also give WVU a reasonably close (proximity)game compared to the other Big12 schools.

Does not matter when they have media darling Prime in the league. He will be running that crappy conference in 3 years and we won't stop hearing about it.
Colorado is about to being the USC of the 2000s.

big12 is fine
they still have options, pac10 has none, ACC has little options but to merge with pac12, still making it a bottom wrung conference.

The game has changed there are a bunch of schools fixing to start harnessing the NIL with their big money boosters to make some potential contenders.
