Can't believe they drafted Manziel

Yep, but no sure thing in this draft at QB.

Only a moron would've projected him as a top 10 pick. His off field stuff alone should've dropped him way past that. Add that to a playstyle and body type that won't work in the nfl and you get a late round draft pick at best.

Top 10? No

He's 5'10, 180 pounds with an OK arm and a 4.7 forty

Kind of like the day the Steelers (and a lot of other teams) passed on Dan Marino.

lets face it. It wouldnt had mattered if they had drafted ben. He would have wasted away like every other qb there. Its the place qbs go to die.

I am fighting my innate Saints bias here but this is a untenable assertion.

I mean, Brees is my favorite player of all time and he's still good. I just think Ben is better right now. Cam won the MVP last year and had worse receivers than Brees. Just trying to be realistic here.

Brees can still play obviously but he's slipping a little.

Brees avg stats the last 3 years:

68.7% comp pct
4995 yds
35 TDs
13 Ints
100.9 QB rating

Roethlisberger:

66.4% comp pct
4384 yds (note Ben missed 5 games this year to injury)
24 Tds
13 Ints
96.6 QB Rating

Sorry I don't see it. The Saints may be slipping as a team, but statistically Brees is not regressing much yet

you want to look back at mocks prior to the draft? a lot of them had him at cleveland at 8

im not defending him by any means. but it really wasnt a super crazy pick when they made it. theyve been trying to find a QB for years and they took a gamble on him as his stock was falling on draft night

You can draft Brady to the Clowns and he would flop. They play in the Factory of Sadness after all.

Yet he went 22

I doubt you'll find one orgabization that had Manziel as a top 10 prospect on its board.

who the frick knows where he was on any one drafts board. probably low as he went in the late 1st round. still doesnt change that he was in the top 10 of the majority of mocks leading up to the draft

and once again, im not defending him or his career. just the decision of the browns to draft him at 22. it really wasnt that wild of a pick

Actions speak louder than words. If teams had considered him a top 10 pick, he would have went in the top 10. Mock drafts are hot air.

I will admit that I whiffed on Manziel. I thought he was going to be a good not great NFL QB.

so then the browns choosing him at 22 isnt that wild. because since he was chosen at 22, then thats what his value was. and thats basically my point

This is generally meaningless. Most of the time when players "Rise and fall" its just the draftniks catching up to the actual professional team scouts. Also, every single team has a different board.

Its probably likely that he just wasn't that highly rated by NFL teams, and was overrated by amateurs.

and thats possible. but i still dont find much fault with cleveland taking him at 22 when they have been looking for a QB for years. even though passing on carr is looking really bad

The fact that he was ever projected that high is pretty crazy. But the Browns don't seem to want to take a real risk at QB. Of all the guys they've had since they came back into the League, I believe they've only drafted Couch, Quinn, and Manziel in the 1st Round.

They could have had Bridgewater or Carr at 22 in 2014, could still have had Carr at 35.

I just think it's interesting to note that they haven't really missed out on any "sure thing" 1st round talents since that 2004 draft. Not factoring in trades, that is. They could have had Roethlisberger that year, or they could have drafted Rodgers in 2005. But he went 24th and they drafted 3rd.

They made some bad picks, but not at the expense of getting that franchise QB everyone is looking for.

He absolutely was. They won that game despite him.
