Freddie is on record that he'll defer some money on his extension(and he will get extended) in order to keep Marcel here.

Freddie didn't say that. That was speculation from either DOB or Schultz, but I do think he would.

I agree with this, but I also think it's a bit dangerous to just assume he'll be back to normal. That's a brutal injury and can be really difficult to recover from.

Mike is 22. He'll be fine. Wainwright had the same injury, same foot, is 36, and recovered fine. Him and Soroka had the same surgeon FWIW. And he's ahead of schedule recovery wise.

And you are right on Freddie. That was speculation.

Here's some more promising stats on Riley for those who want to give up on him:

91.0 MPH exit velocity and a .269 BABIP.

Ozuna had a .257 BABIP and a 91.8 exit velo in 2019. So pretty comparable #'s to Riley. And we all see the season Marcel just had. Riley hit into a lot of bad luck this year.

Riley will be fine. You guys giving up on him now will look mighty silly when he's mashing 35-40HR's and hitting .260 or so.

So awesome that LA waited until now to implode.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread.

Anyone think Lemahieu is a realistic options for the Braves to possibly acquire? He would be ideal

Its hard to say how teams will handle the offseason with how COVID affected revenues.

If I'm the Yankees, I give him a qualifying offer and not even give him the chance to think about walking

I wonder if we would consider a one year deal with Corey Kluber if Bauer and Stroman are out of range? He can probably be had for cheap considering his last two seasons.

It would be risky to rely on him finding his 2014-2018 form, so we'd be looking him as a #4-#5 type of starter, but there's high potential with him too.

I still like Riley. He couldn't hit sliders away in 2019, and I think he overcompensated this year and slowed his bat speed just a tick too much so he could hit offspeed stuff, but then couldn't catch up to fastballs. He's a gifted hitter and I believe he will find a happy medium eventually.

Corey Kluber

Probably the #3 starting pitcher on the market now, and should be a lot cheaper than Bauer or Stroman. If he is willing to take something closer to Felix than Hamels, we might as well at least kick the tires.

On a related note, has there been any Muller news? I know AA mentioned there was a chance he could see action in 2020 when the rotation was at its worst, so is he going to be a significant factor in 2021? That would obviously change what we are looking to do this offseason

Regardless, we need to be active in shopping our AAAA pitchers this offseason. Plenty of our guys still have value, but don't seem likely to ever contribute in Atlanta

Claiming Brad Hand with 1 year left on his contract would be an intriguing play here.

I just hope AA realizes how close we were to winning a title this season and acts accordingly.

We were up 3-1 on the eventual champs, we're a piece away.

The fact the Indians just put him on outright waivers instead of trading him. Makes me feel like that there is no money this off season to spend for a lot of teams.

Wonder where the Braves land on the spectrum

No chance they claim Hand with the money they have invested in Smith imo.

We paid for smith despite having Melancon on the books for even more...
Not saying it is likely, but hand isn’t out of the realm of possibility

Melancon and Smith were not similar pitchers.

With a multi year Smith commitment and Minter and Matzek’s production last year tying up $10M on Hand would be borderline asinine given our other needs.

Bullpen help is the last thing we need to invest money in this offseason.

Sort of agree, but losing Melancon and Greene is something you also don't want to ignore. Getting one of those guys back, or getting one other backend arm to go along with what we have coming back, should be a priority. Whether that's spending money, or through trade.

Braves turn down Darren O’Day $3.5M option. Bit of a surprise considering how well he’s pitched for Braves (1.21 ERA in 2 years there). Not as big a shock as Brad Hand going on outright waivers but not something you’d expect.

A sign we’re not gonna be spenders?

Has anyone heard that Cardinals may not be able to/unwilling to retain Wainwright? Heard some scuttle regarding that yesterday.
