Anyone think we may give Lincecum a look? I think some team is gonna get rewarded if they take a small risk with him. surely 2 yrs and 7-8 mil per would do it....he has ace stuff

I don't know why, but I'm just not surprised at all.

Actually I do know why. I've come to expect disappointment in the playoffs

I have the image of Uribe holding his arms up in the air after he hit the homer seared into my brain.

frick, this is going to be the longest day ever.

Well my plans for sleep were ruined. frick Fredi. That's pretty much all I have to say about this season. The 8th inning of that game summed up his entire tenure with the Braves. It is desperation, do or die, win or go home to your couches time and he leaves the best relief pitcher in baseball rotting in the fricking bullpen in favor of David Carpenter. frick him. frick him. frick him.

Last night, I was so mad about this, but you know what, 99.9% of baseball managers would do the same thing, because "closer."

Some guy tweeted last night the Mariano has 27 career 2 inning appearances.

Terrible decision.

That's really not that many in 19 years.

I guarantee there were plenty of games Rivera sat in the pen and watched an 8th inning guy blow it under Torre and Girardi.

eta: I'm not really defending Fredi, because I think he's a stupid frick for many other reasons. Just being realistic about the way most people manage.

I still feel so stupid for assuming that Fredi was going to put Kimbrel in the 8th. I thought it was a no brainer.

Why are Braves fans upset, he has NEVER used Krimbel in that situation. So it isn't a surprise he wouldn't use him last night

quote:

Consider that 31 of Rivera's 42 postseason saves have required him to record at least four outs, and nine of those have come in the World Series. He owns more two-inning saves in the playoffs (14, including four in the World Series) than all but two closers in Major League history (Brad Lidge, 18, and Dennis Eckersley, 15) have postseason saves, period.

It's not a regular thing, but still happened.

What's worse is Fredi did the double switch too (which was the correct move) thus setting up the ability to bring in Kimbrel any time in the 8th.

Because losing sucks and we faced off the best pitcher in baseball, on the road, and had a real chance to steal the game, but didn't use the best reliever in baseball, so that stings.

I think Fredi also dodged a bullet leaving Garcia in too long too. I know no damage happened, but this is the sort of stuff that cost Grady Little his job too despite Boston being so good. Once Puig doubled, you have to go to your best guy in there to shut down the rally.

On another note, why when Uribe cant catch up to the 97mph fastball do you throw a 84mph slider?!
