You're right about that. He did then and other times. I guess that I'm accustomed to listen to home announcers using the term Braves and occasionally Atlanta, whereas Buck used Atlanta probably 4 out of 5 times. I'm not saying it's a conspiracy - just something I noticed.

Joe was really good during the entire WS. And unlike others, I don't have a problem w/Joe Buck. He is an elite baseball PBP guy. He is good at football, but baseball is his wheelhouse.

This was already his 24th WS. And he's still only 52, so he's still young.

You almost have to try and trade Contreras, right? TDA is around for 2 more years and Langeliers is clearly the future of the position.

I also think at least one of Pache and Waters gets traded. It's basically wasting time to hold both of them down in AAA.

I would hold onto Contreras for a little while, at least until Langeliers is almost ready just to have a somewhat viable backup to TDA. Then I'd try to move him.

I would deal Waters. Pache has a higher ceiling but lower floor. If nothing else he'll be at the worst an elite defender in CF.

I'm not sold on Pache. I get that he's young but he did absolutely nothing when he was called up. Earlier this year when people were ready to give up on Riley, he at least showed flashes of being a really good player when he was first called up. Granted Pache only played in about 20 games but just looked lost.

Watching High Heat on MLB Network. Mad Dog didn’t mention the Braves at all in the opening. The first 40 minutes was all Buster Posey. The last 20 minutes was all dusty baker. Never mentioned the Braves winning the World Series.

I would rather be strapped to a chair and forced to watch games 5,6, & 7 of last year’s NLCS on loop than willingly listen to Chris Russo talk about anything

I absolutely cannot stand that blowhard

People said the same thing about Riley. And they looked really dumb and impatient. If Riley has taught us anything, it's that you have to have patience w/young guys and GIVE them time.

We have to be patient w/Pache.

As someone a few pages back pointed out - Rosario and Soler are going to each get more money than we're thinking.

They each made $8 mill this past year. Both showed out pretty big in the post season... so look for $12.5 to $18mill per year...

And Duvall hit 38 homers with 113 RBI's this past season. He ain't playing for $7 mill next year.

But I sure would love for us to keep 2 of the 4 (Soler/Rosario/Duvall/Pederson).

Hopefully - Freddie's extension (6yrs $160mill) is taken care of quickly.

Then we can work on our other needs -
#2 The OF (please sweet baby Jesus can we re-sign 2 of them)
#3 1 or 2 dependable right-handed relievers
#4 A quality starting pitcher

I would also expect Dansby to get an extension during the off-season. Next year is his last year under team control and he is set to be a free agent in 2023. We should probably lock him up as soon as possible.

Like I said above. Big difference with Riley and Pache is that Riley was really good when he got brought up and then had a slump. Pache has done nothing, though it's been in limited time.
It's not an apples to apples comparison. I'm willing to give the guy a chance, I just don't think he's nearly as untouchable as Riley was.

Which is why Ozuna's contract is so bad if he's not able to come back and play. We could use his money to sign Soler and then still be able to sign one of the other 3.

I don’t think Soler and Rosario will get anywhere near $18M/year.

Riley's first couple of months as a rookie made it hard to give up on him, for me. And throughout his minor league career, he always got off to slow starts, and then put up huge numbers. Pache was a solid hitter at every level, but never more. He gets very few extra base hits and doesn't draw any walks to off-set that. So I have never been high on him, even as a prospect. I never understood the hype.

I really hope the light comes on for him, but I just really don't see the ceiling that others talk about. Waters had a disappointing year, but he's shown a lot more offensively throughout his minor league career.

I've really got my eye on Michael Harris. If his power takes a jump like Acuna's did when he shot up from High-A to Triple-A, then he's going to shoot up prospect boards. He has a much more mature approach than either Waters or Pache, and he was considered "raw" when they drafted him. I'm excited about his trajectory.

I think both are getting anywhere between $9m to $15m.

Eddie Rosario got 8 million last year and will probably get something very similar this off-season. Soler has had one great season in the MLB and hasn’t done much outside of that year. They played great for us but nobody wanted these guys at the deadline. I would be surprised if either one got above 10 million a year.

Maybe not, but a I agree with someone else who said a lot of you are underestimating what they will get. They made money this postseason. And they got their championship with us, and I’m sure it was all great fun for them, but they have no loyalty to the Braves and after the parade and parties and celebrations all die down, business is going to kick in, and these guys are gonna wanna go to whoever is willing to pay them the most money.

Of the 4 OF we got at the deadline, while I’d love to keep them all but Joc ***, I think it’s much more likely we only sign 1 than 2 (even 2 is very unlikely imo), and I’d say zero chance of 3. And I’d think the Duvall is the more likely of the 3. I’m not sure he’d be my choice of the 3, but his being able to play CF was a very underrated factor in this run cause it allowed us to stick another bat in the lineup. I didn’t know he could do it, and was surprised it didn’t get talked about more.

***Joc is a terrible hitter, he just gets streaky and runs into a few in the playoffs and fools people into thinking he’s better than he is. He’s a 4th OF on good team and a power bat off the bench in late innings, but he’ll get paid better than that. “Loved the juice you brought, Joc, the pearl necklace thing was…whatever it was…’preciate the bombs in the 1st 2 rounds, but we’ll see ya in 10 years when we celebrate this team.”

he picked the braves to win in 7 also. and picked us to beat dodgers. he was very palatable this year.

now it was bad back in 2019 when yankees were playing astros in ALCS because he is a new yorker!

If that’s what it takes, you’ve got to do it. And you can’t worry about the last year or 2.
1) I think the cap and payroll will be up a good bit by then.

2) I don’t think he has a sharp decline. He works too hard for that. And Big Papi, before one of the games was either talking to Freddie or about him, and said something like “His short, quick swing right there, says to me that he’ll be able to hit till he’s 45 years old.” And he’s right—great hitters with short swings can hit longer. It’s those long swings that pitchers start finding holes in when the bat-speed slows down a little.

3) 37/38 ain’t what it used to be. With the advances in training, guys can stay in shape and play at a high level longer than they ever had. Hell, Gurriell just won a batting title at 37. I don’t think Freddie will be fricking our payroll in 6 years.

4) But even if he is, so fricking what? Win now. Worry about 2027 when it gets here.

I honestly think it’s more likely we sign zero than two.

I said this the other day and was surprised nobody else has said anything about this until now. Literal hometown kid who is great defensively at maybe the most important position on the field and who is finally producing offensively more like the expectations for the #1 overall pick, you’ve got to extend him now and lock in your starting SS for the next half decade plus. You know he’ll give you a bit of that hometown discount. God forbid you wait and he makes another big jump offensively and instead of taking care of it now after he hit .240 with 27 home runs, you’re sitting here next year trying to re-sign him instead of extend, but he just .300 with 32 home runs. Still in the afterglow of the championship while everybody’s happy and feeling great, get him and Freddie done and have a dual press conference to announce both and we’ll all have a Merry Christmas. The rest will take some harder decisions.
