Its very easy to think that what Acuna said in Spanish was mis-translated into English and that he was taken out of context. I could definitely see that happening.
But the truth of what he said probably lies in the middle.

On a different note, has anyone else done some Braves googling, out of boredom, and noticed the hit piece the huffandpuff post has already put out? I'm not going to read that garbage, but the headline said "Major League Baseball Starts Today, And The World Series Champs' Name Still Honors Genocide". That article was on the 1st page when I googled, but it has since been pushed back a ways.
I ask again... What is it about being called the "Braves" that could possibly be considered offensive to any sane person, let alone honoring genocide? And what genocide are they referring to, I wonder? Is it the tribe on tribe genocide? It surely couldn't have been genocide from the US Army, because if their aim was to destroy the entire native population, they wouldn't have let them live, and assigned reserved land.
Regardless of whether or not anyone agrees with how that was handled, it was far from genocide.
If being called the Braves is a celebration of genocide, then that must mean that the actual people called the Braves were genocidal. What else should I conclude from this logic?

quote:I agree with you here. Ronald probably said some things he shouldn't have, but what's done is done. Just hope it's not a distraction and he comes back from the injury as good as before. Freddie is gone and Ronald is still on the team so I'm going to support him 100%. Just adding even more fuel to the rivalry. It's Opening Day everyone!!!

Yep.
I'm sure Ronald will be pulled aside by a Braves PR rep sometime today. And once ESPN/national media gets a hold of this they're gonna beat that horse till it's dead.

I say just let the translator handle that for him, and let Ronnie stand there looking pretty
Amped for tonight and amped for Ronald to get back to assaulting balls

I know that's what it is. I just like to ask rhetorical questions to see if anyone on that side wants to attempt answer the question, rather than just emote.

I don't torture myself with it. I said I didn't read the article; just the headline. And I wondered if anyone else saw it, too.

I really find it hilarious how some people (not including the person who I am replying to cuz I don't know), when Freddie was all eager to throw Ronnie under the bus a few years ago AND DID, justified it by saying "well... he was asked a question and he honestly answered!"
Well, I feel that response is *perfect* to those who want to condemn Ronnie for "honestly" answering. Good for Ronnie, IMO.
