Is it weird that I don't think his suspension will be that long considering he already basically served a 100 game suspension.

Nothing can be put past Manfred. By all rights, Ozuna has already paid the price. But sports commissioners rarely use time served, as an actual judge would do. So I'm prepared for a season long suspension on top of what he has already missed. At the very least, 81 games. I'll be pleasantly surprised to be wrong, if I am.

I think a full season suspension would be better for the Braves than 81. Would clear the full $16M off the books and give them a clear need to fill the DH spot. Soler would be a no brainer at that point even if you have to go 2 years then you trade one of the two after next season.

I tend to agree with that sentiment, even though I don't think it would be right from a legal perspective, if he got suspended the whole year. If he's only available for half a season, who knows how long it takes him to get his timing back when/if he returns, and then you have to pay him for those games. So yeah, it would be less complicated if he got the whole season, at least for next season. I don't know who's going to trade for Ozuna's contract if he should perform badly.

And as I said earlier, I still don't know where the Braves stand on Marcell. Are they going to allow him to return, or will they eat a bunch of money and release him if they can't trade him? I hope it's not the latter.

as long as we get marcell back soon we can let soler walk and i really like what he brought to the team. but regardless we will be stacked moreso than ever especially if we keep duvall also. you get acuna and ozuna back plus rosario and duvall? yeah that lineup is stacked.

rosario can make any type of hit with great contact and hit for average. reminds me of what terry pendleton did for us hitting wise but with more speed. he is a must keep.

We’ll definitely have to pay more for Freddie now vs. signing him to an extension mid-season or prior. It’s definitely a mistake waiting that will cost us money.

Now there’s always a chance a big market club will blow Freddie away with an offer the second free agency begins(tonight at midnight).

Hopefully something has already been agreed upon.

Seriously doubt anything happens with the top free agents until the CBA picture is cleared up a little bit.

Braves decline team option on Josh Tomlin, release Grant Dayton, outright Terrance Gore to Gwinnett, add Travis Demeritte and Allan Rangel to 40 man roster, reinstate Ronald Acuña and Mike Soroka from 60 Day IL.

Correa turned down 5yrs/$160 mil from the Astros. Not at all an apples to apples comparison with Freddie but we might be underselling the total money we’re going to have to pay him.

2020 Marcell? Yes. But ‘21 Marcell? Give me Soler. Ozuna looked like he couldn’t have given any less of a shite this year. Pulled off everything. Stop right on top of the plate and still ran out of bat.

Different position, different situation. Correa is seeking his first big contract. Freddie has his $$$ and his legacy is secure. He's not going anywhere.

Meh... he was turning it around before he fricked up his hand and then fricked up his wife's face.

If everything is squared away legally and the core team players are ok with having him back, then I want him back in the lineup. I know it's easy to forget, especially now, but that dude was the heart and soul of the 2020 team. He was basically Heredia in the dugout but Freeman at the plate. If the universal DH is a thing, and it will be, he's a no-brainer on the lineup card.

correa is five years younger and plays a premium defensive position at a gg level. He will be looking for a deal like Lindor or machado. The goldschmidt contract is still probably the benchmark, with a little extra thrown in

In other news, AA said in an interview that payroll will be higher next season

Max going to pull the Silver Slugger/Gold Glove double in all likelihood.

His hitting/defense alone was actually worth almost a full win in terms of WAR.

From The Athletic:

quote:

A source familiar with the contract discussions said the holdup so far has been years — the number that Freeman is asking for in a new contract, and the number the team is offering. Around the industry, conversations during the postseason had outside observers and officials with other teams speculating that Freeman on the open market could command a five- or six-year deal worth close to $30 million annually, perhaps with options for another year or two tacked on.
