If they can lock in Olson for a few more years at a reasonable price then I’ll like the deal a lot better.
Should free up some money. Be interesting to see where they look from here. Being in on Cruz makes it seem like they are looking for another short term deal for a big bat. Still need OFers and we are RH heavy. Somebody like Conforto on a one year prove it deal makes sense to me.

My whole thing is that our window to win is over these next 2-3 or 3-4 years. I feel like we decreased our chances in essentially swapping out Freddie for Olson. Production-wise, will there be a drop-off? No probably not. But we can't discount how important Freddie was to that locker room and that plays a huge part of stabilizing things over a long season
You talk about this win now mentality and that we have a 3 year window.
Fried 28
Andersen 23
Wright 26
Soroka 24
Albies 25
Olson 27
Riley 24
Swanson 28
Acuna 24
Our window is 7-8 years. That is your core right there. AA was looking at the long term health of the team.
You don't not make moves based on what ifs and maybes for prospects.

we will be fine regardless.
remember we won a title without ozuna and acuna.
we get them back.
we add olson.
if we can keep one of the two beasts in the playoffs rosario or soler we will be loaded for bear and will be beating down the door for another title. we should have a big window.

I think you're a little too emotional about it right now and severely underestimating what this move has done for the team long term. What AA did was not easy but it was the best move that will allow him the freedom of signing guys and not having to navigate FF deal.
I will miss him though

Welp it's definitely Acuna's team now. I think we'll be fine but it still sucks especially if he signs with the Dodgers.

I slept on it, and woke up feeling like this was only a good trade if we’re able to sign Olson long-term, and my guess is we’ll only do that if he performs well this year. Baseball is funny, and a change in scenery for a great player can go either way.
Some big risks pay off. Some don’t. We shall see.

Went from constantly refreshing Twitter re: Freddie to now constantly refreshing Twitter to see what happens with Soler and Rosario. Get it done, AA!

Would be strange to have a lineup that includes Olsen, Ozuna, Riley, Acuna, Soler, Duval, Albies, and Swanson. Thats 7-8 guys who will hit 20+ homers with about 4-5 guys who CAN hit 40. (Will hit 30 if healthy).
Whats the consensus on resigning our OF?
Rosario
Soler
Peterson
Whats the order of the above 3 in regard to priority?

I get you guys are melting over a someone who’s has all 5 tools in a catcher, but to my knowledge has he played a game above high A ball? AA at the highest id think: meanwhile Travis D is unequivocally somewhere around the 5-7th ranked catcher in baseball who won’t cost much. See we didn’t need a possibly elite catcher in,2-3 years we needed a guy who can more or less replicate Freeman’s offensive output

Gun to my head I’ll take Soler over Rosario but one of Ozuna/Soler in the OF every day doesn’t seem ideal defensively imo

You are NOT wrong here but ....
Even if Olson has a down year due to injuries, or the pressure of "replacing Freddie"....
We weren't going to give Freddie 6 years and $200 mill. That's too much for us in years 4, 5 and 6.
So even if we only get 2 prime years out of Olson... we will remain in contention for a championship vs 2 years of some back-up level player at 1B.
AA made an incredible difficult decision to make this trade. But it was a smart move on his part.
The lineup should be just as dangerous as the one we had during the post-season.... with bangers up and down the lineup.

Shea played 92 games in mississippi last year. A handfull in gwinett. And was the taxi squad catcher for the playoffs (think he actually gets a ring for that)

You’re probably right, don’t follow the minors religiously, and he is probably a really good player who will be a serviceable to great pro. The thing is we have bitched and moshed for a decade about how all we do is hold onto prospect and never materialize them. We literally do that to trade for a player that couldn’t be more timely and fitting insofar as anyone that was possible to get to replicate Freddie. D’Naurd isn’t some scrub we need to replace with urgency. It seems like we are comfortable with commitment to at least 3-4 years from him. TLDR we didn’t need Shea no matter how good he is to continue to win big in our window with our extremely talented young core, we needed Olson.

Shea put up big offensive numbers in AA and made a brief appearance in AAA, where he admittedly struggled with the bat. Most scouting services expected him to be in the majors this year. D’arnaud obviously has silver slugger potential, but he is a very streaky hitter, has a long injury history and does nothing to deter base stealers. All of those issues will only get worse for a catcher going into his age 33 season and counting on him to be “the guy” for the next 2-3 years is a pretty big gamble in my opinion

Dude we can’t be the best at every single positron in the diamond. Travis is not great defensively but he is cheap and he hits, not only hits but far more than what general catcher offensive numbers look like. He is without a doubt at the WORST in the top 10 coming in at 10th in MLB starting catchers. I’d argue when healthy he’s more around 5-6. There’s not very many + catches around right now, which I give you is an argument to hold Shea, but I think AA and the movers and shakers making these decisions are rightly interested in how most can we maximize our success in the next 3-4 year window while we have all these stud 27-28 year olds. If that’s your outlook how can you be so salty about this trade.

Contreras hit .290/.357/.516 in 44 games in Gwinnett last year.
