Good on AA for not just running it back with Seitzer.

Interesting not filling the catcher coach position. Wonder what the thought process is there.

The only thing I can figure is that Eddie assumes that role without getting a new title

Who are some successful hitting coaches they could target? I'd think people would be foaming at the mouth to work with a lot of these guys.

You're not getting rid of Seitzer after one bad year when he has consistently(this year aside) had productive hitting teams.
Looks like he’s not, but the Braves are

Eh, this comes across as a scapegoat move. Unless there was something going on behind the scenes, this move screams pound of flesh.

No, it screams "we're supposed to be in win now mode but two teams in our division had better seasons than us while every single one of our hitters downgraded from last season."

Stop being afraid of change.

With how volfan has pointed out our struggles with catcher development, I would have thought that if they are changing that coach, they would bring in a new guy with a different philosophy. Would think Sal and Eddie are probably similar in coaching philosophy

I know development is a whole organizational process but still

The BB% seems to be what AA is most disgusted in based on his comments on MLB Radio last week. He talked about hard hit rate, being unlucky etc. but said if you are chasing and not getting on base it doesn’t matter how much slug you have.

It’s been a problem under Seitzer for years. If you are going to sell out for slug you HAVE to pair it with on base skills.

“It was a tough year this year, though,” Seitzer said. “I don’t blame Alex. I don’t blame him for a second.”

quote:

“It was the hardest season of my life, because guys were trying so hard and couldn’t get going, and I couldn’t get them to (not press),” Seitzer said. “If they can find somebody to get these guys to not try so hard, that needs to be the guy they hire. You can talk about mechanics until the cows come home, but this (struggles this season) was all between the ears.”

Considering how you are always wrong when it comes to this stuff, you may want to change it up a little bit

Probably some dude in the minors of some organization that’s really good at developing players (like the Rays) that everybody in the sport knows and respects, but we would likely have never heard of him.

There are probably some former players that would be good, but you wouldn’t really know until you saw them on the job. And almost all recent ones made too much money to be willing to grind it out in the lower levels. I bet whoever we hire we either won’t really recognize his name and/or won’t have enough info to determine if it’s a good hire or not.

not to me really. in baseball particularly, i feel like it's important to rotate in new voices.

even with all of the coaches that were well regarded on the staff in previous years, we still flamed out at the end for various reasons. new perspectives and new ideas on how to attack the pitchers should be good for the group.
