And I'm not saying give up, but trade anyone besides those 4 to grab multiple players. Go after Mize from the Tigers to be a #2, grab Minter, grab a corner OF that can hit lefties well to platoon with Yaz and move Dubon to SS full time, etc.
We have so many holes giving up the farm for one player makes zero sense. Now I could get behind some kinda super deal for Skubal and Mize involving Hartman, and then making minor moves for a platoon OF and relief pitcher depth. That would move the needle for the team and change it so if the offense got hit we'd have a shot.
But simply having Sale And Skubal backed up by Elder and our other garbage isn't winning anything.
I never said Skubal was the only move we should make.

this year's series with the mets since the all-star break has been strange - Braves win the first 2 including a 14-3 win and now they've won 3 straight with a 14-3 win -

I don't think I've ever seen a stat line with 15 runners on base in 2.2 innings, add in 11 runs and 78 pitches

Thomas gave up 4 runs against the Pirates in his only other appearance so far. His era is over 21.00 right now.

It's more the fact that you had to go through that against a 44-62 team.
We have a bunch of 4th starters who struggle to go 5 innings and an ace we can't score for.

Seriously Broski, I can't even think of a bullpen guy who was SOMEWHAT available after this weekend's usage of the relief pitchers. I know you follow this kind of thing pretty good. Who am I overlooking that we could have brought in after Perez besides the sacrificial lamb we turned to?

I can't agree with some of the ideas you're pitching in this thread. I would absolutely trade NONE of our top prospects for Tarik Skubal. Why? Because he's a rental that we all know full well the Braves will not be able to re-sign. As hard up as this team might be for starting pitching, it's more important long term for this team to either hang on to those prospects, or trade them for guys with multiple years of control.
I see how you keep mentioning that this "core" is basically on it's last legs. What core? We only have a few guys who could be considered core players, as much of the group that lead the way through that 7 year playoff run and WS championship are already gone. We've already begun reloading a new core, and the focus should be to continue that. Michael Harris finally looks like a real MLB player again, Baldwin is already a star, Olson should continue to be productive for at least another 4 years, and then it's a bunch of question marks.
Albies, Riley and Acuna are three of those original core guys who are young enough, but with those three, it's been injuries, inconsistency and, in Riley's case, downright terrible play that have already created significant problems in our lineup in recent years that make it difficult to justify an all-in approach to trading for a rental starting pitcher, when there are multiple issues to address. I think the continued building of the farm system, hanging on to some of those guys, and making smart trades for controllable assets with others, is the way this teams needs to go. I have no interest in getting desperate for "one last hurrah" with a few core guys, just to throw away the future. Build this thing back up the way it was built the last time.

I haven't been paying much attention, but what happened to the return of some of our stud starters this year? Did they all get wiped for the season? Getting at least one back would be nice.

Riley and Acuna are both cooked IMO one mentally and the other physically. Hope I am wrong about both..............and we don't have playoff calibre starting pitching at the current time. Bullpen started hot but they are beginning to falter because of overuse of the good ones and the others well are just bad or not ready or scrap heep reclamations or journeymen hangers on
