I get the Kerr move, it's the right call to have a lefty opener go at Schwarber and Harper off the rip.
But frick man, it's dire straits that we're turning to Ray Kerr in a do-or-die game

I'm wondering why anybody from NOLA could pull against a guy named Nola who is pitching against a team from Atlanta?
Are you pulling for the Falcs, too?
Hey, listen. Bet on the Falcs for MNF. Penix likely stays healthy for the game. The Falcs have been collecting early 1st round talent for many years. They have a strong roster - and it is a bit stronger than the Saints roster simply because the Falcs have been drafting much higher for many years.
The NFC South is weak. It's wide open. I'd say it's a good bet that the Falcs win the Division.
There. Now you can pull for TWO Atlanta teams.

Is there a scenario where Sale comes out of the bullpen to pitch to Schwarber and Harper if the game is on the line?
I just don't see Walt/AA rolling that way two days after throwing 90+ pitches. If it was the LCS or World Series, maybe.

I’m not mad at the call to Kerr but definitely livid at the missteps that led us to this exact moment. Preseason I guess I can excuse, no one could predict that many injuries. But at the deadline? It was GM Malpractice to only get Mahle. I don’t care how close you were to getting DeGrom, who’s washed anyway. It was inexcusable.

Looking at what Casey Mize or any of these other guys have done since the deadline -- IMO it's a toss-up on what any of them are going to do in a Game 3 or Game 7 to end a series.
I don't feel any worse about Kerr/Grant Holmes than I would about any of the other names that were floated around. Robbie Ray has a 5.02 ERA with SD since the deadline.

It wasn't that many new injuries, we began the year with Strider, AJSS, Waldrep and Schwelly all on the IL rehabbing major injuries.
The fact that we went into this season having no real rotation plan other than "just wait till these guys get healthy" is crazy, but that is a larger discussion for whenever the ATL Offseason Thread starts up.

Armed with hindsight, sure.
I'd still feel more comfortable with someone with previous postseason experience than two guys that have never logged a pitch in the playoffs.

Yep.
Kerr/Holmes vs Nola/Wheeler
Gee, I wonder who has the advantage

I mean we're probably gonna be scoreless by the time they come up a 2nd time anyway, just prolonging the inevitable
Eventually you have to hit the ball if you want to win

i've lost track at how many games we were in a similar situation and it looked so grim............only for us to hang in there for quite awhile and almost teetering on pulling a massive upset to blow it.
off the top of my head...
2013 at LA.game 4 NLDS
we have the lead. we had a end of bench pitcher who started. juan uribe jacks a 2 run shot in the 8th inning and they never looked back. garcia gave us 6 strong innings then that carpenter bum blew it.

The last time we won a winner-take-all playoff game, we started a lefty.
We are 0-6 in games since
2002 NLDS vs Giants (Lost 3-1)
2003 NLDS vs Cubs (Lost 5-1)
2004 NLDS vs Astros (Lost 12-3)
2012 NLWC vs Cardinals (Lost 6-3)
2019 NLDS vs Cardinals (Lost 13-1)
2020 NLCS vs Dodgers (Lost 4-3)

Going to try and look at it positively. The Phillies have not seen Kerr as much as the other Braves long-term starters and relievers. He has been pitching well and I haven't seen anything about his demeanor on the mound that says he will get emotionally overwhelmed.

This hasn't been just a 2026 issue. We've heard the same shite ever since the exit interview in 2023 when he said "we have to get another playoff caliber starting pitcher."
Guess what we havent done since then??? It's inexcusable to mismanage the roster the way he has since 2021. The last two seasons, he's hitched his wagon to hoping and praying multiple guys return from serious injury only to have said guys get injured again or have a drop off in production. And that's just on the pitching side. He's ignored SS and OF for 3 seasons.
The window is pretty much closed thanks to him.

To be fair, we did have Sale and Fried for 2024.
But then we didn't replace Fried when he left.

There is no defense whatsoever at the bums we've trotted out at SS since Dansby left.

Hopefully this means they are tapped out of homers now.
