It's either do this, or sign high price free agents and get first round exit after first round exit like we had been getting. This doesn't work unless you are ready to eat the contract if they don't work out and just continue to sign others, like the Yankees. We aren't able to do that. So we are following the Royals model. Building from within with the farm system. I like the trade personality Simmons is overrated by fans.

If ATL hasn't already started making calls to other teams about Aybar, they'll be getting calls, because rival execs say they're interested.

People are short sighted in general. Only care about the now. I am very excited for our future. We have probably the best farm system in the game now. We also have the third pick in the draft. We have a hand shake agreement with Kevin Maitan and 4 others in the top ten for July 2nd. You get better via prospects, you don't get better by continuing to borrow against time. Last year at this time, our system was completely barren. Bottom 5 in the league. We have done a complete overhaul. We are in the position to make another decade long run, hate to make the comparision to the 14 straight teams because that was a freak thing that we may never see again. Both of the world series teams this year built through prospects. Baseball is an arms race, always has been, always will be. The future is very bright.

These last two offseasons have felt like a Marlins fire sale. Eventually we will have to sign some contracts to be good again and stop trading away good players before they hit their primes.

Upton and Heyward were leaving after 2015. We weren't going to offer 200 to either. Instead of getting one draft pick in the back end of the first, the alternative of trading them was better than us. Ck was a luxury we simply did not need for the next 3 years, with the fickleness of relievers, he was one pitch away from being a bad contract, was correct to deal him to get rid of Melvin's contract. Simba with his contract and weak SS free agent class this year, proved the Braves with their best opportunity to get better in the future.

Sherman says Braves like Shelby, Touki, Fried, Allard and Newcomb best of the pitching prospects.

Have to think Sims is #6.

Miller
Toussaint
Fried
Allard
Newcomb
Sims
Teheran
Soroka
Wisler
Folty
Jenkins
Bird
Ellis
Gant
Banuelos
Sanchez
Thurman
Graham

An otherworldly amount of pitching depth.

Yeah, why not keep it up and deal Freeman while they are in full rebuild mode? Could be nice return.. might as well.. what's the point.

This is not the last deal the Braves will make. They will make a deal for a solid bat. Will do it from that depth.

I don't have an issue with the deal. Simmons is great at what he does which is play defense... but that's one trick pony can be replaced. Remember we have Albies on the horizon and I wish we would have kept Peraza and paired them up the middle long term.

Literally 18 starting pitching prospects with value. About 10 with a lot of it.

They will have to to after a 3b since they are moving Olivera (the guy from the Dodgers spelling?) to LF.

Doesn't surprise me. He's an emotional guy. I hate to see him go, but I like the return and think the organization might be better off long term.

Like, dont love the trade. Newcomb is obviously a top 20 prospect, and a top 2-3 LHP prospect in all of the minors, and thats valuable. I dont care about Ellis, He's a pen arm at best imo.

What will make me love this trade is if we trade Aybar. We arent winning this year, so there is no need to keep him at short. We can start Cabrera there and still be bad. Aybar has plenty of value this offseason since the SS grouping is weak as hell in free agency, plus he is cheap.

If we get a descent prospect out of him, then I will really like the trade.

I don't think he'll bring us anything by himself, especially since he only has one more cheap year on his contract. If we attach a pitcher to him we might get something though.

Yea, I saw that. Stupid comment. I wonder if they're planning on starting him at AA this coming season?

DOB tweeted that Coppy said in 2 hours he's gotten calls from 3 teams about Aybar.

Then he postured and said that he likes Aybar as a contributor for the team.
