It's pretty interesting how everyone is commending Tiger from coming back from his 2 month sabbatical, and overcoming his injury, to shoot a 'remarkable' round of 73. (I mainly mean media guys)
Tom Watson rolled out of his recliner at age 65, probably having countless aches and pains, and shoots 71.
Tiger had a decent day. No one should mistake it for anything incredible.

I think it has to do with the way he got to the 73. He drove the ball alright but was just off all day and scrambling. His short game and putter were pretty sharp. That should be surprising at the very least.
There were a few people in the media who went a bit overboard with his round. There were also people taking the opportunity to sorta dog him. Either way, what we saw from Tiger should be pretty exciting to his fans.
