The only type of hit that can completely destroy a golfer is a shank.
I know from experience.
I've hit every snap hook, fade, slice known to man. But not one of those shots mess with your confidence. A shank... especially multiple ones, can completely break you down as a golfer. The shots you never use to think twice about all of a sudden become leg shakers.
