Jeez did Oprah come up with all these awards?

To be fair, his interview was very good. He understands why people don't like him and why they were cheering for Scotty. He showed some humility there.

Dan Hicks is aging to look like Dick Stockton

Kisner does a pretty decent job on commentary but I chuckle every time I see his crooked arse tie, sloppy hair, and a lip that’s just begging for a big chew but he can’t do it on camera.

Kisner is better than Faxon for sure

I was busy all weekend, so I didn't follow this thread. My apologies. But I wanted to ask, again my apologies if we haven't already discussed this, but what about the crowd numbers and to possibly why they were noticeably lower?

Logistics. I guess it's a tough place to get to and from from the city. So trains are leaving and you got to get on them or your stuck so fans are bailing early to get back home and can't stay until the end.
The entire tournament felt muted.

I was reading something that said if you wanted to get back to Penn Station or Union Station by 9 pm, you had to be on the train leaving Shinnecock at 6ish, so you probably had to leave the course at 5?
The leaders teed off at 3:45 Saturday, so nobody was waiting around for them unless they were staying basically in the neighborhood.

I suspect shinnecock might start only getting an Open every 15 years or so in future. Looks like they have 2037 then nothing else through 2051
They go to pebble too often imo, looks like every 5 years

I think that's an effort to make people familiar with the course. I would posit that before this tournament, very few people knew very much at all about any of the holes at Shinnecock. Because the tournament is played at Pebble virtually every single year, we all know a bunch of the holes. Whatever reason, I think that lends itself to watchability.

They created a schedule built around several anchor sites. I think it’s pebble, oakmont, Pinehurst, shinnecock, and maybe bethpage?

I love it when they play on the west coast. Primetime major championship golf is awesome

Pebble and Pinehurst are the anchor sites getting tournaments every 5 years, and then they pepper in Oakmont, Merion, Riviera, Brookline, Shinnecock, Winged Foot etc. getting them every 8-15 years or so.
I think Pebble and Pinehurst get them more often because they’re not private, so USGA has a little more of a leash on everything.
Bethpage is getting a PGA at some point, but not on the Open schedule.
I agree about west coast golf. I thoroughly enjoy watching meaningful golf on up into the summer night.

Brookline, Shinnecock
Those 2 will keep getting put in rotation because they are 2 of the original 5 founding USGA courses.
I think Torrey Pines is one of the great US Open courses on the West Coast too.

Do you say that strictly for the scenery? I'm not sure that it's a great PGA Tour course.

The scenery because it it is a great looking course.
They have proven they can make it challenging for a US Open. I think Tiger was 1 under when he won in '08. Rahm was 6 under in '21.

The south course 100% can be setup to play extremely tough.
