Two other buddies and I picked five golfers one at a time, no repeats, for aggregate score. Winner gets $100 from each loser.

Our 15 golfers (tops in the world) shot a combined 80 over par

I'm winning so far at +20

Carnoustie might be worse with 40 mph winds

Scottish people were smart enough to design golf courses where your second shot isn't basically trying to shoot a marble out of a T-shirt cannon and get it to stop on an upside down cup saucer. The problem with today is that not only were bad shots being punished but half the good shots were also being punished.

A good shot should never be punished. Never

This isn't how links golf works.

They were playing target golf today but with greens that wouldn't hold and wind on top of it.

They can use the ground at Carnoustie.

ETA: The greens actually held ok. It's just the space the had to land on(with the correct trajectory) was REALLY small when wind is factored in.

And it will only get harder. These pins aren't the "problem." The greens are so severe that there aren't many places to put them.

WAY different golf.

I've been contemplating it.

It's 60 and ties.

I'll guess 7 over.

But I kinda think the USGA will scramble to make this a bit more player friendly and the cut will be 5 over.

I have a feeling someone who barely makes the cut could end up shooting like a +40 when all's said and done.

That's one of my favorite things in the game.

I'm waiting for Smyle to make a cut at the Bubba's Lawn Care Invitation and then wind up +27.

Combined score to par for the field today was +1,009. There were 200 doubles or worse in round 1 - last year at Erin Hills, there were 212 for the entire week.

Shinnecock is going to be the star this week. That course looks like it would be a blast to play regularly. With wider fairways and slower greens of course.

That's incredible.

Erin Hills had her teeth removed last year, though.

Only golfer in the world right now who could steal the show would be DJ.

And he'd do that by going something like -1, -2, +1, E.

Yung Sam Burns got what it takes this week?

I've followed him a couple times this year and he's mighty impressive.

it's so hard to judge slope from TV, but man it seems like these putts are slower than I assumed they would be

Thought the same thing yesterday. Putts look slow. Guys are CRUSHING them. And I haven't seen anyone with one of those insanely delicate taps downhill yet.

Probably because the slopes are so severe that they're always well below the hole.
