Katy is a unique sitation,, there is still a lot of legacy families that lived there when it was country ,,,many had deceased kin that left their homes in Katy proper to the family, so they move out of Katy HS but the kids come back to the zone around 7th grade

,the surrounding area is not a small Texas town in any way

but they still have that base ..kinda the best of both worlds for Coach Joseph

Aledo sells itself. Of course they have bagmen that do a great job. Best of both worlds. But they stay under the radar and small in number. Recruiting in DFW goes on more than you think.

That’s the nature of the beast. Even here in Corpus Christi where baseball is king, football stars find their way to the powerhouse school.

Yep. Dallas paper had an article today about open enrollment. That’s the elephant in the room. They need to curb it now. And Westlake is open enrollment. So are Duncanville and Northshore. That’s nonsense and needs to go away now.

Aledo just so happened to have a state MVP QB transfer in there for this season. They seem to get impact transfers every year.

Most schools are open enrollment from what I’ve seen. That’s how Bridgeland got their 4* QB. He lives in Longwood which is zoned to Cy Fair.

Schools can’t be open enrollment. School districts can be. So if a district is open enrollment, then all of their schools are. In the Bridgeland case though, the lines are always moving as new schools open, so I don’t know.

The UIL doesn’t have to get rid of open enrollment. Some districts do it so kids can go be part of academic or fine arts programs. That’s great and should keep going.

But if you don’t live in a house or apartment within that particular schools zone, you shouldn’t be able to participate in a UIL sport for that school. They should take a hard line on all transfers also.

One of the best DBs in Dallas, who attended a private school in Fort Worth this year, announced on Twitter today that he officially transferred to Duncanville. Duncanville’s QB was at a different private school last year. UIL should tell them they can stay private, or attend whatever public school they are zoned to.

And it’s not most schools/districts. Only 16/40 6A districts in DFW are open enrollment. And that’s counting some that aren’t true open enrollment. Like Southlake (who still gets move ins). They have open enrollment, but it’s only to capture a couple of small areas in Southlake city limits that are part of neighboring school districts. If you don’t live in Southlake, they won’t allow you to attend.

Well I guess that’s it. If you live in the district you can enroll at any school for the most part in Cy Fair. Weigman definitely doesn’t live in Fairfield or Bridgeland. Tkose are the only two hoods that go to Bridgeland. Perhaps a sliver of black horse that is west of Fry but I’m not sure. My wife’s teaching partner has a daughter that’s an absolute stud softball player. They put her at Bridgeland but the only caveat is either their freshman year or first year (not sure which one) they cant play varsity. She was a freshman last year and 100% would have started varsity but she had to play JV. So I guess they do something to try and curb it.

And it’s super easy to transfer in Cypress because the schools are all very close together. I think there’s 6 high schools within 5 miles of my house in Bridgeland.

Weigman had a whole party when he decided to Bridgeland. It looked like a senior high school college commitment party. Although it’s understandable. Bridgeland’s offensive philosophy fits his skill set much better than Cy Fair.
