it will be interesting to see if Rafa wants the reps

I’m sure he’ll play because of his pride and ego, but I’m of the belief that he could show up at RG without any match play on clay, shake off the rust early, and be completely dialed in by the 3rd or 4th round. That’s exactly what Roger did at AO 2017, and that was following surgery and a full 6 months out. And the conditions in Madrid don’t suit Rafa’s game like they do at RG, so this result may not be all that bad.

Although... this quote might be a tiny bit of a concern...

“I think that it's more normal what is happening right now, than what happened in the past 14 years,"

I'm of the opinion that he should play Rome. He's played fewer matches than normal because he's been losing, and he might benefit from some positive momentum.

Alex loses. Not great for his confidence going into RG.

RBA and Busta seem to be losing whenever I look up.

Schizo Nick beats Medvedev. Go figure.

This guy here.

I'm not even sure why I'm giving attention to this...
quote:

Nick Kyrgios has shredded Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and other tennis rivals in an incredible interview.

Kyrgios branded Spanish legend Nadal a "super salty" sore loser who was partly responsible for turning fans against him. He also called his long-time coach, Uncle Toni, an "idiot".

He claimed that Djokovic "has a sick obsession with wanting to be liked", blasted his "cringeworthy" post-match celebrations and said that the Serb would never surpass Roger Federer as the greatest player in tennis history, despite predicting that he would win more Grand Slams than the Swiss icon (who has 20 majors).

At least he gave verbal confirmation of what I figured about the work he puts in...
quote:

"Simply because, I've played him (Novak) twice and like, I'm sorry, but if you can't beat me, you're not the greatest of all time. Because if you like look at my day-to-day routine and how much I train and how much I put in, it's zero compared to him.

Did I see people are playing twice tomorrow? That should be a disaster. I expect tanks, retirements, and withdrawals. Perhaps there are some gambling gems in there.

Thanks for the heads up. They usually won't put out lines for 2nd matches until the 1st is done, so there's rarely a big edge.

You think guys will withdraw with 1.5 weeks left until RG?

So the whole tournament has been pushed back because of weather? And now they are having to double up?

Yeah, Fed and Rafa will have to play twice today. They had to double up at some point, so may as well get it out of the way. I just think if you're in a battle in the first match and don't really need the points/money, is it worth killing yourself to potentially play three more sets today and tomorrow? I know you have a week off, but I think guys will not put in maximum effort. To Rafa's credit, he did double duty at Cincy two years ago, so I got to see him and Nick at night.

Well, the big dogs are cruising today, so fatigue shouldn't be an issue for them.

he was on pace to match up with Djokovic in the quarters, that would have been fun to see.

his victories against Djokovic have been very entertaining, with Nick taking every set. Djoker just wasn't able to get into Nick's service game.

Then again, that's when Nole was going through his personal issues, so im not sure if that counts that much.

Nick is right about Nole's celebration being cheesy AF though, he's extremely well disliked by the Rafa/Roger contingent, so I'm not sure why he even tries.

he would be much better off if he accepted his role as the heel of the big 3 and just went about his business instead of trying to be liked.

Didn’t Nick just call out his haters in a recent press conference? Lol
Also how TF does Thiem lose to Verdasco so early...

The guy's a coward. Talk a bunch of shite about beating Djokovic and then get defaulted when he's in Djokovic's side of the draw and could play him in the quarters. Also, the guy has zero masters wins, GS semifinals, and has never been ranked in the top 10. Why are we even still talking about this guy?

Agreed that Kyrgios is a joke. So what if he has a huge first serve and a lot of talent. He's 2-0 against Djokovic while he was in a down phase and has taken a few off of Nadal while he's clearly on the down hill in his overall career. Big deal. The antics are the only reason he is even talked about.
