You're right, people would possibly stop there to pee when going from Lafayette to New Orleans.

You could probably make a better argument for Maryland recruiting better since they have Under Armour but it's going to take a lot to save that program.

Yea but ND is an Under Armour school
I’d argue UA rather see ND win than Maryland

Because the majority of college football players aren’t worth a hill of beans from an endorsement standpoint.

This. Right. Here.

I'm willing to wager that no more than 1-5 players from each team will have the ability to cash in on NIL to any sizeable degree. And I'm betting that number is closer to 1 than 5.

LOL I can see the new entry in the Willie Williams recruiting diary now. “The IPAs at the brewpub in Madison were a bit piney and hop-forward, while the bar in Columbus had some juicier options to go along with a strong array of Trappist ales. I left there wanting to be a Buckeye!”

They may not, but couple it with the transfer portal and the realization that if you are going into your 3rd year as 2nd string, maybe leveraging things for a decent W2 job comes into play.

Thought this was worthy of a bump with Oregon's big fish from Texas today.

They are already a solid top 15 recruiter. With NIL, they will be a perrential top 5 with the same amount of in-state talent as Arkansas, who can't even get into the top 20.

Pretty incredible.

Can someone explain to a dumb person like me what Oregon can provide through Nike that other Nike-sponsored schools cannot?

Genuine question. I’m trying to wrap my head around all this.

Phil Knight is a huge Oregon guy, gives huge amounts of money to the school and sports.

Large amounts of money to answer your question. Instead of giving it to the school, he could just sign them.

Basically, its free agency, no salary cap, and ability to trade one self.

The reality is that there is a natural connection between Nike and U of O. Several high profile Nike designers such as Tinker Hatfield and several Nike executives have come from U of O. Nike also sponsors a sports marketing and design curriculum. What Nike gets is a lab to showcase their latest and greatest at an institutional level, basically if Oregon gets some new technology, they get to sell it for every other school (Alternate Uniforms, Creative designs on gloves, etc)

If you go to Oregon, your IN the family. You're also basically going to school at Nike headquarters. You're naturally going to get preferential treatment from Knight and other Oregon alums at Nike.

Now, if a Manziel type phenom comes along at some Nike school in the south, then obviously Nike is going to be all over them, but Oregon athletics are also going bto sell "hey, come be a part of the family and get a Nike deal" til the cows come home.

.. And 17-18 yr olds are going to eat thag shite up like candy.
