xiv, I was just thinking. By playing Tech this year, is LSU in danger of heading in the wrong direction?

So I think Tulane and LSU should play each other.

LSU is pissing away a historic rivalry.

Looks like the purple and piss rock throwers on this thread just got a brand new glass house.

Tech has offered ULM $$$ to play in Ruston for a one and done. ULM refused. The only reason ULM wants to play Tech is to have Tech as an opponent in Malone stadium. They just want the attendance spike so they can stay in D-1A.

Is LSU giving ULM a return game in funroe? Of course not.
Tech isn't LSU. They need to stop trying to pretend they are. Tech is a Sun Belt school. To even broach the subject of a one-and-done game is indicative of the snobbery and elitism that exists in Ruston.

It's like saying, "Our trailer park has a neon sign, and your'n don't."

frick Tech.

I agree with you.

But you do agree that the difference between LSU and Tulane is far greater than the difference between Tech and ULM, right?

You jumped the gun, buddy. I hate losing the Tulane rivalry.

I don't want to start ragging Tulane, because I really do wish their school well.

I also try not to look at things through Tech colored glasses.

But anyone that thinks Tech would lose to Tulane heads up, this year, is blind. I would say the same thing for ULL and maybe even ULM. McNeese will give them a run for their money this week.

No doubt. This may be the worst Tulane team I've ever seen. As far as long-term capability and viability as a program, Tulane can be the #2 football program in Louisiana. The same can be said of the other three non-LSU FBS schools in Louisiana.

Big picture: LSU is elite, and Tech/ULM/ULL/Tulane are more or less bottom feeders (1 WAC title in a decade doesn't scrape a program from the bottom).

It wasn't long ago that LSU was a bottom-dweller in the SEC. It gives us hope. One good Head Coach hire and it turns the whole thing around.

More LSU comparisons that just don't make sense.

LSU is one of the all-time great programs; a short period of ball-suckage happens once in a while, but sure enough, they always end up at or near the top where we all agree they belong.

Tech is a bottom-dweller; a one-year period of WAC-winning, and sure enough, they always end up at or near the bottom where we all agree they belong.

I realize I just drop into this thread to stir shite, but, really, when you make any sort of comparison of Tech to LSU in any context, you invite scorn.

I love lsu but we were never a top tier team till this decade. A few good seasons thrown in but Mainly moderate seasons.

Depends on your definition of "top tier." According to cfbdatawarehouse.com, LSU was in the top 12 for the 30's through the 70's. I wonder how many other schools were consistently that good for a 50-year span? Not Alabama. Not Tennessee. Not Georgia. Not Texas.

Damn. Tech beat the frick out of Nicholls. This program is definitely going in the right direction. It's such a great thing that Dooley got Nicholls as a quality opponent instead of settling for ULM.

8 Conference Championships in the 70 years pre-Saban. (a championship every 9 years)

4 Conference Championships in the 8 years post-Saban hire. (a championship every 2 years)

He made a HUGE difference in the LSU program.

Nicholls doesn't expect a return game. Will ULM do that to keep the rivalry alive?

PLEASE, try and understand, Tech is in NO position to demand a one and done with ULM or any other D-IA school. It is not hard to figure out. Every time you say this, you are just embarrasing yourself and Tech.

Fixed. I see your point, but I still dispute the claim that LSU was never a top-tier football school before this decade.

1958-1966: 72-21-4 (.763)
2000-2008: 90-27 (.769)

In those two nine-year spans, LSU had virtually the same winning percentage.

It just depends on how bad ULM wants the game. We are in a position to say 1 and done, or not at all. We are fine with not at all. I'm sure they would not agree with a 1 and done and therefore, it may be awhile before the game is played, if ever.

I will say this: As soon as ULM becomes a threat in any way to Tech, you will see a new series signed.

If Grambling* wanted Tech to play at Grambling for a one-and-done, and they offered Tech the same amount of money that Tech offered ULM for their one-and-done, what do you think Tech would say?

* or ULL, or Arkansas State, or North Texas, etc...

Fixed.

Actually Tech had a decent crowd for their opener against NSU - 19,400.

What was the attendance for ULM's opener againt their D-1AA opponent? Something like 9,000??? Maybe ULM should schedule all their home games in Arkansas - what a joke!
