Excatlly and that is probablly another reason why Tech does not want to waste a game with ULM. We get more recognition playing Miss State, USM, Navy Auburn than any number of games with ULM.

You don't the media in the areas where we play and recruit don't cover these games. We very much recruit against USM so a game against them or Miss State is very important. Tech also has transefers that have come in from SEC schools. I fail to see how you can not comprehend that.

Christ. I suppose you're going to argue with me but for one, Tech is spending money to improve their facilities (football, baseball, tennis.) Especially on the football stadium (field turf, Jumbotron, new seats, new paint) I don't much keep up with ULM but as far as I know, they aren't spending money to try to improve the overall state and perception of their athletics program. No one is saying that Tech is on par with LSU or even Tulane athletics. But improving the overall state of the entire athletics program at tech would be the right direction. Spending the bare minimum as Tech and ULM have done for the past several years is the wrong direction. Which is why Tech fans finally are excited that someone has finally come in to Tech and is giving some thought to athletics.

Partly true, partly untrue. ULM installed new field turf in 2007. Other than that I can't speak on any other improvements. Tech is definitely doing more it seems to improve the program. This is all attibutable to Dooley. Until ULM hires an AD and head coach with similar aspirations as Dooley, they will continue to wallow in mediocracy. And I am a ULM grad and life long fan, but facts are facts. I still HATE Tech though.

Thats my point. The anti tech folks in this thread have said theres nothing to be excited about. Well, I disagree. The athletics program at Tech has just been a footnote for a LONG time. Now Dooley has come in and is actually working to improve the program in all aspects which is why people are excited about what hes doing. And it may or may not last once hes gone but improving facilities will certainly help with recruiting, even after hes gone.

There's still no good reason why Tech and UL shouldn't play every year. Tech should play ULL too.

The mere fact that LSU finds it possible to play Lolly Polly and Ooh La La makes Lolly Polly's refusal to play ULM even more laughable. Really. It does.

The emperor has no clothes. (sigh) Their "up and coming" program is significantly funded by Louisiana taxpayers. Check out page 11 of that Tech 2020 document posted on here several times.

How about this example. Suppose the techster's took an additional $2 million (over the $4 million already) out of their general fund and used it to outright purchase a home game with LSU, Georgia, or some other top eschelon SEC team. Money talks and everyone has a price.

Would the techsters (and their apparent defenders here) cite that as an example of them moving their program forward? And would such a gimmick be wise use of that money?

It would be illegal. The state makes laws about how much money is apportioned to state universities. Tech isn't forcing them to hand it over!

Louisiana is the only state I know of that has made it illegal for universities to charge student fees for athletics. Therefore, the government has decided that they would rather provide the financial support to our universities than passing that burden to the students of the universities. Louisiana schools suffer because of it. ULM, ULL, and Tech have 3 of the smallest budgets in college football.

Not if you are playing at your appropriate level. You have a Burger King market and customers, yet you are trying to be Ruth's Chris. Well, maybe Western Sizzlin'.

Go way back in this thread and check out the state auditor's reports for ULL, ULM, Tech, NW St, and McNeese. McNeese uses the least institutional support and generates the largest home football revenue. They are 1-AA, btw.

If LoSerU were willing to schedule a home and home with LaTech, you would have a point.

I would be interested in the information, but I'm not going to do that.

There are alot of teams that play 1A that have similar markets and customers as the Louisiana schools.

Market:
- Auburn, AL
- Oxford, MS
- Starkville, MS
- Waco, TX
- College Station, TX
- Lubbock, TX
- Hattiesburg, MS
- Eugene, OR
- Lafayette, IN
- Charlottesville, VA
(and on and on)

Customers:
- SMU
- Tulane
- Alabama-Birmingham
- Rice
- Tulsa
- Marshall
- Southern Miss
- Troy
- MTSU
- Western Kentucky
- Wyoming
- Air Force

(and on and on)

I'd still love to hear a Techie answer this question: if Tech is going in the right direction, where are they going?

I think Boise State's model is the best we could hope for.

We know we are not part of the BCS and we will never be a money-maker for the NCAA. All we want is to be competitive, win conference championships, knock off a few of the LSU-types along the way, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Of course you wouldn't be interested in the truth. The truth doesn't support your desires. But as we tell our children, just because you want something doesn't mean you should get it.

The true major programs based in the cities cited have state-wide followings. Others are kind of like tech. Wannabes that don't have a wealthy alumni base and therefore resort to tactics like body bag games, state subsidies, etc.

Drats, someone else will get the 500th post.
