Why not all of the above?

We do have all of the above. MS State paid Auburn to buy out of the away game because we beat them.

Our series with USM starts next year and runs for 4 years. The second game (home) in the Army series is next year. Navy at home the next year. Houston is a 4 year series starting in 2011, if I remember correctly.

We play an FCS opponent for the same reason you did last year against Appy State. Rent-a-win.

The series is even in my lifetime, and you call that a rent-a-win? Typical Tech elitism.

ULm wants this series, Tech doesn't. So ulm shouldn't be picky if they truly want to play us.

you don't want to see your team risk losing to them. That's my entire point.

Our point has been we don't need to play them, ULM NEEDS to play us for some reason. Do they think it will legitimize them. The only people who are at a real loss for a Tech vs ULM match up has bee ULM fans.

You mean nobody there remembered the great Billy Rickman catching touchdown passes for Tech or Tag Rome coming home to Ruston to play against Tech only to get injured and not be able to contribute to an NLU win?

ULm wants this series, Tech is afraid because they think that a loss to ULM might be the thing that keeps CUSA away, when in fact it is the fact that they are Louisiana fricking Tech and that they are a Sun Belt school that nobody wants.

Neither team needs the other. Similarly, neither team needs to avoid one another. Playing each other will not determine the fate of either program. It's a rivalry that should be played because it is economically efficient and interest will be generated (not always, but mostly).

ULM is dying on the vine. May not exists in the not too distant future (that is, if the legis. ever decides to fund schools based on performance). ULM wants to play Tech in a desperate attempt to create interest in their program. Why should Tech oblige them? It's in Tech's beat interest to let their downward spiral continue. In fact, it would be a dumb move on Tech's part to play them right now.

21 pages. Amazing.

And still . . . the most important fact to glean regarding Tech is that it will be in Baton Rouge in November to provide a light scrimmage for a true Div I power.

ETA: Oh, and the fact that they are, in fact, pussies.

yea, I know. I was actually at the NLU/Tech game Rome's senior year and saw him crying as he had to leave the field injured.

Was just thinking it is a shame that the current fans don't remeber these big moments from what was one of the best rivalries in the state back when those guys were playing at their respective schools. Any Tech or NLU fan who was at the games back then would have to admit it was a great rivalry.

Friends of mine who played at NLU used to tell stories about John David Crowe making the "Gotta get quicker to beat those guys down the road" speech when they were running sprints.

Friends who played for Tech have told me stories about whipping an NLU player's tail outside Stows because he had a Tuck Fech bumper sticker on his car.
It was a special game for the players, coaches and the fans back then.

Also, ULM regularly plays SEC foes--some home, some away.

In this decade? never home, all away. Playing Arkansas, in the capital of Arkansas so that ULM can meet D1 minimum attendance doesn't count. ULM doesn't even get to keep the gate from its "home game".

What do you say to that?

If it does come to this - I think Tech gets cut before ULM. IMHO.

That pretty much sums up the whole series.

I was actually an NLU fan back in the 80's. I have never experienced the feeling of a loss in this series. When I was an NLU fan, NLU always won (big Tag Rome/John Holman fan). Then I went to Tech and Tech always won... mostly big-time blowouts.
