I found it, that was over 10 years ago, thought it was recent.

U-LAMO is terrible. They are dying on the vine. We have bigger fish to fry.

And as far as Tulane goes, we will outrecruit them in their backyard again this year.

I'm still shocked that ULM had to use an Arkansas home game to meet the d1-a standards for attendance. That is pretty low right there, and can't believe that the NCAA accepts that.

You know, some knuckleheads really don't know when it's best to shut up. Ah, but then again this is a Lolly Polly fan. The game will be a laugher. Seriously. The only relevance the number 30 will have is that the game will be over in the first 30 minutes.

Even if it is over in 30 minutes, I can at least leave with the comfort of knowing that I'm not an LSU fan.

Well, those conference titles and national championships can be quite a burden.

Both Tech and ULM are kept in Div 1 through taxpayer subsidy. Neither program remotely breaks even.

At what cost? And when do you quit sending good money after bad? How many millions?

Only 25 Athletic Departments in the country came out in the black in 2008.

I guess the other 95 schools should all be limited to in-state opponents and body-bag games as well.

We're not talking about 95 other schools. We're talking about schools like Tech, ULM, and ULL that have had to cut academic funding by almost the same amount they subsidize attempts to be Div. 1 in football. At the same time crying about "Louisiana politics as usual", when in fact they want and need same.

If you were an investor in a business, and the owner kept coming back to you saying "Just fund me one more year and I'll turn a profit.", at what time do you pull the plug and say rather than trying to be a steakhouse, perhaps you should be a burger stand? Or close altogether?

Added: Go back to the link to the state auditor's reports I posted way back in this thread and you'll note the state school earning the second most football revenue after LSU is Div. 1-AA McNeese. They also take a smaller amount of institutional support than the three Div. 1 wannabes.

If what you're saying is true, the plug should have been pulled on LSU 20 years ago.

Tech isn't telling everyone to "wait and see, we'll turn a profit." Most FBS schools and all FCS/DII/DIII schools don't turn a profit in the athletic department.

That giant videoboard Tech just built actually reduces our overall deficit because of the amount of advertising revenue.

There is a certain pro team that takes a good bit more ($23M) for its athletic department...

And yet, still no one gives a shite about Louisiana Tech.

Circumstances are different than 20, 50, 100 years ago. If colleges were all starting from scratch today, there wouldn't even be one in Ruston. Both it and NW State are anachronisms. If anything, now more resources should be directed towards LSUS, that serves a larger metropollitan area, than say Tech or Northwestern, both being in rural settings. ULM is likewise well placed to serve a broader area.

So how many more millions in the hole and to what end? Where are any new fans coming from? Do you even do any realistic market research? The economics and demographics of your surrounding area simply don't support your ambitions. Hence there will be even more subsidy in the future.
